Position Summary
Performs financial functions related to the proper recording of CPS Energy’s fixed assets, to include detailed analysis of the classification of these costs by asset class, timely retirement of fixed assets and the proper recording of plant depreciation. Performs account reconciliations and associated financial analysis and prepares various auditing schedules. Responsibilities may include working with other areas of Controller and Financial Services.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Core responsibilities focus on operational / tactical aspects of the organization such as accounting close steps / tasks, preparing daily wires and directly supporting our Fleet Business Unit.
- Prepares schedules and supporting documents for annual external audit.
- Performs reconciliations to ensure accuracy of data.
- Prepares and updates desktop procedures, including flow charting and similar processes, while assessing current processes and recommending process improvements.
- Collaborates with management in managing financial efficiency. Utilizes the SAP system for research, analysis and report writing.
- Communicates, both in writing and verbally, to CPS Energy Controller management team and certain external parties regarding ongoing areas of responsibility.
- Provides a high degree of service to CPS Energy internal customers by responding to financial and operating questions.
- Performs other project and process improvement initiatives as assigned.
Minimum Skills
Minimum Knowledge and Abilities
Relative experience in program/project management for Operational Units.Basic knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of a particular field of specialization.Ability to set priorities, organize work and make occasional exceptions.Ability to work in a team environment, coordinating with other areas to achieve goals and objectives.Ability to work in a variety of locations such as the field, construction centers and the main office.Initiative to work independently or as a member of a team, coordinating with others to achieve desired results.Well-developed written and verbal communication skills for interaction with all levels of personnel.Ability to meet goals and objectives with minimal direct supervision.Effective interpersonal and customer service skills.Ability to make recommendations and independent decisions.Proficient in Microsoft Office Package, including word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation software, electronic mail and scheduling.Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as an accountant/analyst in a related field.
- Working knowledge and experience in Microsoft Excel.
- Working knowledge in SAP, PeopleSoft, or Hyperion.
- Relative experience in supporting the electric or gas utility industry.
