Open Rank, Non-tenure Track Faculty Position

Position Overview: 

The Master of Social Work program in the Graduate School of Counseling and Social Work invites applications for one (1) non-tenure-track or tenure-track, open rank, 9-month faculty position as the online program coordinator beginning January 2026. Our on campus MSW program is accredited by CSWE as of November 2024. We are specifically looking for an individual who will develop our online MSW program application for CSWE based on our existing on campus MSW program. Candidates must have a MSW from a CSWE accredited program or equivalency established through CSWE and a doctorate in Social Work or in a related field and at least 10 years of professional experience as an academic faculty. The candidate will be responsible for teaching a total of six (6) courses across fall, spring, and summer semesters, serve as an academic advisor, and actively contribute to the MSW program, the new Graduate School of Counseling and Social Work, as well as the college.


On Campus MSW Program:

Aligned with the mission of Merrimack College, the Master of Social Work program is an on-ground advanced generalist program and is accredited by CSWE. It represents a dynamic, innovative, and growth-oriented training program with a commitment to working with vulnerable and marginalized populations; and affirms the values of self-determination, sustainability, and community and global solidarity. The program is designed to offer both a part-time and full-time and Advanced Standing Track for students. We seek to develop a comparable online MSW program.

As the online MSW Program Coordinator, the successful candidate will provide administrative coordination of the online MSW program including supporting faculty recruitment, curriculum, scheduling of classes, and progress towards accreditation via CSWE. They will provide leadership in student enrollment, engagement, and retention goals; and monitor student academic performance and success. The faculty member based on their academic category may teach a total of 24 credit/contact hours (6 courses) across the fall, spring, and summer semesters. On-campus courses are taught in the late afternoon and evening. The successful candidate should demonstrate the experience or ability to teach a range of courses in social work discipline including but not limited to: Introduction to Social Work Research and Practice, Evaluation of Social Work Practice, Contemporary Social Welfare Policy, and other related courses. The faculty will be responsible for providing formal on-campus and online teaching, effective delivery of instructional material and course management (e.g., assessments, grading, etc.), advising, mentoring, and supervision of graduate students, attending faculty meetings, and completing social work programmatic tasks, and other responsibilities as assigned by the Dean.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative leadership for the online MSW program.

  • Teach 6 courses per year in the MSW program.

  • Facilitate the implementation of a yearly review of the online MSW program which shall serve as an annual report, to be submitted to the Academic Dean at the end of each academic year.

  • Ensure the development and implementation of assessment for the online MSW program, its courses and student learning outcomes.

  • Provide timely and accurate advising to potential and current online MSW graduate students about the academic program.

  • Coordinate faculty teaching online courses to ensure consistency of course content with stated program goals and objectives, and, where applicable, coverage of relevant national and/or disciplinary standards such as CSWE, competencies, and state educational regulations.

  • Collaborate with the Field Education Director(s) to assist in identifying appropriate field internship sites.

  • Review all online MSW program application materials and make modifications, as needed, to ensure their appropriateness for identifying suitable candidates for the online MSW program. 

  • Assist the Academic Dean in identifying, making recommendations about, and participating, as needed, in the recruitment of faculty.
