Summary:
The Library Operations Student Assistant staffs the Information Desk, Print Center Desk, and Receiving Room at Bender Library as necessary. Typical job duties may include but are not limited to answering phones, providing information to visitors about the library and the campus, fielding room reservation inquiries from library users, stocking supplies, and deterring theft and destruction of library materials and property.
The student assistant may also patrol the library building to ensure patrons’ compliance with library policies. Depending on Library hours, shifts may be scheduled between 8:00AM-10:00PM.

Essential Functions:
Providing excellent customer service.
Providing directions and making referrals to other library departments and campus offices.
Addressing patron complaints.
Troubleshooting printers and internet access.
Managing the lost and found bin and stocking supplies for patron use.
Maintaining presentability of Library spaces.
Recording patron data and other statistics.
Communicating patron concerns, housekeeping and building issues to appropriate personnel.
Other duties as assigned to support Library Operations or other Library Departments.
This position is onsite only.
Minimum Requirements:
Excellent customer service, interpersonal, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and multi-task in a busy environment.
Must be an active student of American University .
Ability to work collegially with members from across the library and university.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
