As a Non-Certified CS/SPD Technician, you will play a key role in how our operating rooms care for patients. In this role, you will receive ample support, training and education, including knowledge of operating the latest, state-of-the-art processing equipment and sterilization tools and concepts.
A caregiver in this position works first shift Monday – Friday from 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. with weekend on-call rotation.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Provide safe, efficient practices for decontamination, instrument assembly, wrapping and sterilization of all reprocessed instruments and distribution equipment.
- Provide case cart management.
- Properly handle equipment, instruments and chemicals while adhering to preventative maintenance schedules and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) standards during the decontamination process.
- Perform preventative maintenance.
- Scan, sort, inspect and assemble, wrap and label instruments by instrument list as documented in the procedure.
- Perform record keeping functions within the electronic tracking system, including processing, sterilization and quality assurance documentation.
- Build case carts using electronic preference cards and dispatch them to appropriate locations.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Sterile Processing Distribution Certification (e.g., CRCST, CSPDT, CFER, or CER) within 18 months following new hire period
- Military experience as a Hospital Corpsmen (HM), Machinery Repairman (MR), Aircraft Maintenance Technician (2A3X3), Biomedical Equipment Specialist (68A), Small Arms Repairer (91F) or similar considered
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- One year of healthcare experience or a similar background in Mechanical/Manufacturing Assembly
Physical Requirements:
- Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting items that weigh 20-30 pounds.
- Requires the ability to push a fully loaded cart weighing up to 200+ pounds.
- Possible exposure to biological and chemical contamination.
- Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
- Requires corrected vision and hearing to within normal range.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
