Job Description: 

Summary:

Under the guidance of the Director of Nursing the incumbent of this position will oversee the nursing staff to provide the professional nursing care for the residents of the long-term care facility in accordance with the guidelines set down by the company and the government entities who oversee regulation of long-term care facilities. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Coordinates and monitors the daily activities of the nursing services department staff

2. Maintains consistent application of EverTrue policies; Participates in coaching/counseling of nursing service personnel as necessary

3. Participates in the development, maintenance and updating of written policy and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of the Nursing Services Department

4. Performs administrative duties, including, but not limited to workforce performance evaluations, determining work assignments and scheduling, medical record documentation, completion of RAI/MDS, and other written and oral reports as required

5. Participates in direct resident care when necessary

6. Participates in Committee meetings as required

7. Functions in the capacity of the Director of Nursing, Charge Nurse, and /or MDS Coordinator in his/her absence and as assigned

8. Assists with in-service training of the nursing services, department personnel

9. Participates in survey (inspections) made by authorized agencies

10. Maintains a safe work environment; Practices good infection control procedures; Must demonstrate, upon request, the fundamentals of disaster preparedness as outlined in the Disaster Preparedness Plan

11. Maintains the confidentiality of all pertinent resident and employee information to assure their privacy is protected

12. Conducts rounds on neighborhood(s)/unit(s) to check on residents and staff to assure appropriate and safe care delivery; Identifies issues or concerns and intervenes when necessary

13. Upon resident admission, ensures coordination and timely completion of the admission process

14. Reports and supports investigative protocols as it relates to staff or resident incidents and/or accidents in accordance with state and federal regulations

15. Complies with applicable federal, state and local laws, regulations and standards

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Graduate of an accredited/approved school of nursing

  • Two+ years of related supervisory experience in a geriatric environment

  • Must be CPR certified

  • Must hold a current state applicable RN nursing license; BSN preferred

  • Demonstrates the initiative and the ability to work independently and prioritize tasks

  • Must be able to follow direction written or oral

  • Must have patience, tact, flexibility, a cheerful disposition, enthusiasm as well as the willingness to handle difficult situations

  • Must have legible handwriting, good telephone and filing skills
