Mechanical Reliability Engineers
CACI International IncAbout the role
The Opportunity:
The Optical and Photonics Systems group of CACI is looking for candidates to help develop the next generation of optical technologies. These include free-space optical communications terminals and modems and high-power optical sources across the optical spectrum. Particularly, efforts will develop the next generation of capabilities, with previous successes having flown on the International Space Station as part of an optical communications relay demonstration and another having achieved the current largest data optical transmission range of >19 million miles, along with developing the Space Defense Agency’s standard terminal for laser communications.
This position is contingent upon contract award.
Responsibilities:
Apply the concepts of physics of failure and accelerated test methods to evaluate reliability of electro-/opto-mechanical devices at the system, sub-system, and component level.
Responsible for mechanical component characterization and qualification testing to ensure compliance to environments requirements and customer specifications. Conduct and/or coordinate off-site testing as needed at specialized test facilities, including radiation, shock and vibration.
Utilize deep knowledge of Part, Materials, and Process (PMP) to ensure compliance with space application standards.
Prepare detailed documentation, including test procedures and test reports, failure analysis reports, and reliability assessments.
Lead the development and management of the failure modes, effects, and criticality analysis (FMECA) for the mechanical design. Coordinate with the development teams to ensure mechanical design FMECAs are complete, accurate and updated.
Qualifications:
Required:
US Citizenship required
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, materials or related engineer/science field, and a minimum of 5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education, skills, and experience
Experience driving design to requirements and standards compliance
Experience driving the FMECA for a mechanical design
Working knowledge of Weibull reports, design review and control; prediction, estimation, and reliability distribution methodology; failure mode effects and analysis; and the analysis of reliability testing and field failures
Ability to develop automation software for instrument control and data collection/data analysis using LabVIEW/Python/MATLAB
Well-developed organization skills, including the ability to handle many details and multiple programs simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Motivated, team-oriented individual with strong problem-solving abilities
Desired:
Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, materials or related engineer/science field
Proven experience with Part, Materials, and Process (PMP) for space applications
Experience with military or aerospace standards (e.g., MIL-STD-883, MIL-STD-461)
