Job Description Qualifications:

The Boeing Company is looking for a MQ-25 Vehicle Management System (VMS) Software Lead Engineer to join the MQ-25 Vehicle Systems Software team located in Hazelwood, MO.  This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) business organization.

The MQ-25A Stingray will be the world’s first operational, carrier-based unmanned aircraft and pioneer the integration of manned and unmanned systems within the carrier air wing. The Vehicle Management System (VMS) team is developing and integrating an MQ-25 avionics software suite that provides communication and control with various sensors, radars and the refueling systems.

We are looking for engineers who want challenging and unique opportunities to develop real-time embedded avionics software for the world’s first operational, carrier-based unmanned aircraft.

Position Responsibilities:

• Leads activities to develop, document and maintain complex architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for software systems

• Leads development of code and integration of complex software components into a fully functional software system

• Develops software verification plans, test procedures and test environments, executing the test procedures and documenting test results to ensure software system requirements are met

• Provides technical leadership for software projects and leads software supplier management activities

• Leads development, selection, tailoring and deployment of processes, tools and metrics

• Leads software research and development projects. Leads estimating activities

• Serves as a subject matter expert for software domains, system-specific issues, processes and regulations

• Tracks and evaluates software team and supplier performance to ensure product and process conformance to project plans and industry standards

• Trains and mentors’ others

• Serves as organization spokesperson on advanced projects and programs

• Acts as an advisor to management and customers on advanced technical research studies

This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future.

Security Clearance and Export Control Requirements:

This position requires the ability to obtain a Secret U.S. Security Clearance for which the US Government requires U.S. Citizenship.  Ability to obtain Secret U.S. Security clearance (Post-Start).

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

• Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science or other technical degree

• 14+ years of experience programming in C++

• 10+ years of experience programming in Ada

• 10+ years of experience developing embedded real-time software

• Experience in all phases of the software development life cycle

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

• 2+ years of experience developing software for unmanned or manned tactical aircraft vehicle mission systems in the areas of tactical Hardware System

• Experience with Agile software development

• Experience working with software version control tools such as ClearCase or Git

• Experience developing software services using the Boeing AvionX Defense Mission Computing (Phantom Fusion) infrastructure

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Travel:

Occasional travel may be required but would be less than 10%.
