This job handles the pre-implant, post-implant, and/or inpatient mechanical circulatory support clinical practice. Acts as a patient advocate and patient educator while promoting optimum patient independence, self-care, and rehabilitation. Serves as an integral member of the mechanical circulatory support/transplant team, assisting the transplant physicians by independently monitoring certain patients, managing outpatient clinics and periodically reviewing all patients with the physicians, and by acting as a mentor to staff members . Provides care and service to individuals of all age groups.

Education

Required - Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

Preferred - Bachelor’s degree in nursing. 

Work Experience

Required – 5 years of experience as an RN Ventricular Assist Device Coord.

Certifications

Required – Current registered nurse (RN) license in state of practice.

Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.

Certification in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) from the American Heart Association.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

• Knowledge of pre-implant, post-implant, and/or inpatient mechanical circulatory support clinical practice.

• Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.

• Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.

• Strong leadership skills and ability to be self-directed and act as mentor.

• Ability to be flexible in hours worked, travel between facilities, take 24-hour call for MCS events, remain active in professional organizations and development, and cross-train to all aspects of MCS coordination.

Job Duties

• Manages patients through the MCS process.

• Provides education to patients.

• Educates nursing staff and colleagues.

• Participation in activities for professional growth.

• Ensures compliance and participates in quality initiatives.

• Performs other related duties as required.
