Students will enhance their existing skill set by learning strategies to improve communities by conducting health education workshops, developing, and implementing outreach strategies to specific racial ethnic minority communities, and creating culturally competent resources that can be utilized by these communities to prevent or manage cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and stroke.

 

The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization.

Internship Overview:

  • Time Commitment: 25 hours per week
  • Internship Duration: 1/26/26-5/1/26
  • Location: Palm Beach County. Ability to travel to Palm Beach and the Treasure Coast for community events.
  • Salary: $23.00 per hour

  • Complete an internship that enriches your academic and professional resume as well as enriching your personal life by making a difference in the lives of others.

 

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and delivery of health promotion workshops focused on topics such as hypertension, maternal health, nutrition security, tobacco/vaping prevention, and community emergency response.
  • Support facilitators during workshops by managing logistics, engaging participants, and capturing feedback.
  • Draft meeting notes, summaries, and action items to support internal and external stakeholder engagement.
  • Help craft compelling calls to action for community campaigns and initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development of flyers, social media content, and other marketing materials to promote programs and events.
  • Provide support to community organizations implementing Cardiac Emergency Response Plans (CERP), including coordination, documentation, and resource sharing.
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of CERP/CPR experiences and other community impact meetings.
  • Collaborate with cross-sector partners and internal teams to advance community health goals.
  • Assist with internal program evaluations.
  • Identify, review, and develop resources that meet community health needs such as playbooks and other tools.
  • Explore state or local organizations that align with the Association’s priority issue areas and identify opportunities for collaboration.
  • Attend internal and external meetings as requested, including community coalition meetings, health fairs, and other community events as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Candidates who are seniors or graduate students pursuing a degree in public health.
  • Demonstrated ability to research health topics and translate findings into actionable guidance.
  • Comfortable working with heart health or experience in the field.
  • Ability/willingness to travel to Palm Beach and the Treasure Coast for community events.
  • Demonstrated excellence in written communication skills, including writing on health topics for promotional or educational outcomes.
  • Demonstrated skills in effective one-on-one and group communications and comfort with working with all levels of community leaders, volunteers, and staff.
  • Ability to deal professionally in a corporate
