About the role

Empower Students. Inspire Wellness. Lead with Purpose.

At Brandeis University, we believe mental health is foundational to student success. Our Brandeis Counseling Center (BCC) plays a vital role in nurturing the emotional well-being of a dynamic, richly varied student population, and passionate student body. We are looking for a collaborative, compassionate, and visionary clinical leader to join our team as Associate Director—someone who is as committed to shaping inclusive mental health services as they are to mentoring future clinicians.

About the Role

As Associate Director, you will be a key leader within BCC—helping to guide the center’s clinical vision, strengthen therapeutic services, and build a culture of care across campus. You will supervise and support a dedicated team of clinicians and trainees, engage in strategic planning, and work closely with campus partners to promote mental wellness university-wide.

What You will Do

  • Lead with impact: Supervise and mentor clinical staff and trainees; provide clinical oversight and ensure delivery of high-quality, evidence-informed counseling services.

  • Support student wellness: Deliver short-term, solution-focused individual therapy, crisis intervention, and group counseling as needed.

  • Drive high-risk case management: Oversee and consult on complex or high-acuity cases, ensuring timely and appropriate care.

  • Collaborate across campus: Work closely with departments including the Dean of Students, Community Living, and Public Safety to ensure holistic student support.

  • Shape strategy: Partner with the Director to develop innovative programming and outreach aligned with student needs and national best practices.

  • Foster learning: Lead in-service trainings, facilitate seminars, and offer clinical expertise to the BCC team and broader university staff.

  • Advance equity: Support our mission to be a multicultural, affirming center that actively engages with issues of social justice and student identity.

  • Be a steady presence: Participate in the on-call rotation for after-hours emergencies and provide flexible support during peak campus periods.

What You Bring

  • A PhD or PsyD in Psychology, EdD, or MSW with LICSW licensure in Massachusetts.

  • 5–8 years of clinical experience in college or university counseling centers.

  • At least 3 years of experience in supervision, leadership, or team management.

  • A strong commitment to equity and anti-oppressive practice—and a track record of serving students from historically marginalized communities.

  • A warm, team-oriented approach and genuine enthusiasm for being visible and involved on campus.

The Schedule

  • 12-month, on-campus role (35 hours/week, Monday–Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.)

  • Flexibility for occasional evenings/weekends to support outreach and campus events.

  • One remote workday per week (depending on office coverage and student needs).

Why Work at Brandeis?

  • Be part of a mission-driven team that cares deeply about community, equity and student success.

  • Join a supportive, collaborative environment where your ideas are valued and your expertise makes a real difference.

  • Engage in meaningful professional development through multicultural working groups, trainings, and leadership opportunities.

  • Enjoy fantastic benefits, including:

    • Generous paid time off and holidays

    • Free on-campus parking

    • Free gym membership

    • Comprehensive health and wellness benefits
