The University Marketing and Communications (UMC) Division is tasked with strategically communicating SCU's differentiation and brand across channels that include social media, web, earned media, the alumni magazine, and other digital and print platforms, as well as increasing the University's brand visibility, enhancing its reputation, and communicating its differentiation and value among our key audiences.

A. POSITION PURPOSE

Reporting to the Director of Storytelling, the Assistant Director of Storytelling is responsible for creating compelling and strategic digital content that highlights the unique people and differentiators of Santa Clara University.

B. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Find, shape, and tell the stories of Santa Clara University through articles, web copy, social media content, advertisements, scripts, and collaborative audio and video projects.

  • Identify and act on trends in digital media to create timely and unique content that helps Santa Clara reach new audiences.

  • Collaborate with other campus constituents and units to maintain websites and content.

  • Optimize content for search engines to improve online visibility and drive organic traffic.

  • Provide proofreading and copy editing for articles and other written projects.

  • Support the development and creation of fundraising and comprehensive campaign marketing collateral, including direct appeals, case statements, gift proposals, and videos.

  • Develop and maintain productive, strategic relationships with campus clients (faculty, staff, and administrators).

  •  Serve in a consultant role for campus colleagues in writing and editing-related positions.

C. GENERAL GUIDELINES

  • Under the direction of the Director of Storytelling, ensure that strategic projects are accomplished skillfully and in a timely manner.

  • Collaborate closely with other members of the Storytelling team, designers, digital team, and project managers in developing and executing projects.

  • Recommend initiatives and implement changes to improve quality of writing, editing, and other forms of storytelling.

  • Identify and determine causes of challenges; develop and present recommendations for improvement of established processes and practices.

  • Maintain contact with sources, clients, and strategic partners, and solicit feedback for improved services.

  • Maximize productivity through use of appropriate tools, including project management systems.

  • Research and develop resources that create timely and efficient workflow.

  • Prepare regular progress updates for the Director of Storytelling. Ensure completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of projects.

  • Develop and implement guidelines to support the functions of University Marketing and Communications.

  • For marketing communications, experience creating on-brand, strategic, audience-focused messaging.
