We're the team behind Workday’s secret sauce - an advanced SaaS technology platform designed from scratch for Multi-cloud. We own the complete stack and the tools that deliver and support Workday products across private and public clouds (e.g. on-premise, AWS, GCP, Azure). We enable Workday's scale - 50% of Fortune 500 companies, 8000+ customers, 55M+ Workers, ~365B Transactions - and we’re continuously inventing to accelerate and enable Workday’s growth.

About the Role

This role will support one or more direct or indirect contracts with the U.S. Federal Government which, due to federal government security requirements, mandates that all Workday personnel working on the contracts be United States citizens (naturalized or native).

We are growing at a fast pace and are looking for a Director of Engineering. You will lead globally distributed engineering teams building global standardized technologies for containers, cloud agnostic K8s operators, controller methodologies for application lifecycle management, service mesh, side cars, configuration management, and more. Your core mission will be to increase agility, decrease time-to-market, and boost cost efficiency of Workday's R&D organizations who rely on your “as-a-service” foundational technology platform.

About You

Basic Qualifications

• 8+ years leading a technical team and/or experience with managing software engineering teams

• 10+ years experience with software development

• 6+ years of experience in with one or more of the following coding languages: Java, Scala, Python, Golang, Javascript, C#, Typescript or React

• This position requires a TS/SCI with CI POLY security clearance. Applicants must already possess a valid and active TS/SCI with CI POLY security clearance.

Other Qualifications

• Demonstrated technical expertise in at least two of the following domains: high availability architectures, cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, Kubernetes (custom, EKS, GKE), CI/CD pipelines and GitOps (Jenkins, Argo, blue green) and Service Mesh (Istio/Envoy).

• Technical visionary with high credibility. Able to set and evangelize a comprehensive roadmap to drive long-term technical direction and strategy. Player/coach who can garner the respect of the technical team and attract top-tier SW talent.

• Self starter with exceptional influencing skills. Able to work independently in highly ambiguous environments, with technical and business groups internally and externally.

• Culture creator and change agent. Push boundaries and infuse the organization with modern technology and approaches.

• Robust understanding of modern SDLC and agile methodologies with a bias towards action. Experience in “follows the sun” and high velocity organizations is a bonus.

• BA/BS in a computer science or related field. MBA or Master’s degree is a plus.
