The Lead Battery Systems Engineer is responsible for collaborating with mechanical and electrical product engineers during design, development, and validation stages of the new product development (“NPD”) process, to better define cell/battery packs and their system-level requirements based on use case. In addition, this position will be responsible for communicating externally with new or existing cell/battery suppliers, participating in battery supplier site inspections, developing battery cell-, pack-, and product-level test plans, validation test procedures, making recommendations for improvement through complex problem solving, and supporting post-launch sustaining activities and quality projects.

(2) Early-stage involvement in product ideation and conceptual design to establish minimum required product performance requirements before competitive bidding.
(3) Expert level understanding of relevant globally recognized regulatory and certification standards, and can demonstrate application and background overview, advising cross-functional team members accordingly.
(4) Willingness and know-how to coordinate with 3rd party certification laboratories and external suppliers to drive technical discussions, navigate challenges, and quickly implement resolutions.
(5) Design, prototype, and qualification of battery systems, adhering to design and safety best practices, to expedite development processes with limited oversight.
(6) Develop relevant thorough characterization and qualification test plans at cell-, pack-, and product-level in support of higher product development objectives.
(7) Evaluate complex test results, coordinate execution of detailed and digestible reports, and make educated recommendations for improvement, complete with risk v. benefit assessment.
(8) Root cause analysis and corrective action deployment.
(9) Cataloging competitive benchmarks.
(10) Technical liaison between internal and external representatives, ensuring adherence to design and system specifications to the end user’s needs and requirements.
(11) Expert written and verbal communication skills; capable of hosting efficient design reviews and heavy technical discussions, with minimal-to-no oversight, for internal/external audiences.
(12) Collaborate cross-functionally with team leaders from across the organization.
(13) Independent decision making on engineering problems and methods (as it relates to battery systems) and represent the organization as an authority during supplier discussions to resolve important questions and topics.
(14) Plan, schedule, conduct, coordinate, and execute on detailed and complex phase of engineering work (as it relates to battery systems) in a total program or project. Perform work which includes complex or challenging feature sets such as resolution of conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of standard materials, difficult coordination requirements, and extensive root cause analysis and CAP’s.
(15) Drive concurrent project and testing activities simultaneously with on-time delivery.
(16) Visit battery/cell or product-level manufacturers and suppliers as needed to evaluate design and manufacturing capabilities, and support product development objectives.
(17) Advanced voice of customer solicitation, translation of user requirements to product performance.
(18) Regularly attend relevant technical-related battery topic trainings, seminars, and conferences to stay up to date on battery system technologies, market trends, and compliance/regulatory trends providing organization-level guidance on business risks/opportunities.
(19) Demonstrate applied analytical skills regarding material stress analysis, thermal management, and material selections as it pertains to battery systems product-level use case.
(20) Development of leadership skills to manage a small team of high performing junior battery systems engineers.
(21) Routine maintenance and continuous improvement of engineering documentation, as it pertains to battery systems, record critical-to-quality manufacturing requirements, design constraints, testing data, product integration methodology, and quality assurance.
(22) Minimize negative financial impact within the various facilities during system integration.
