About the role

                                                                            Position Description
Performs real-time and day-ahead energy tagging validation, scheduling, and control area checkouts. Utilizes Open Access Same Time Information System (OASIS) to validate all transmission purchase requests and posts all planned and unplanned Bulk Electric System transmission outages. Enters day-ahead values for reserve sharing forecasts, and schedules assistance received following disturbances. Assists Generation Supervisors on shift with various aspects of energy and transmission schedule verification and implementation. Checks compliance with energy and transmission contract requirements, and if necessary, works with the Generation Supervisor and Wholesale Marketing to adjust schedules to satisfy those requirements.


                                                                                                            Position-Related Responsibilities

  • Performs real-time and prescheduled energy tag validation per contractual agreements, 
    WIT validation, available system resources, WECC business practices, and WECC/NERC Standards.
  • Creates electronic tags for receipt of reserve sharing assistance.
  • Responsible for the preparation of reports regarding the Company's energy sales and
    purchases.
  • Validates power flow schedules for delivery and receipt, including transmission availability. 
  • Receives short-term transmission service requests via OASIS and accepts or rejects requests based on Available Transmission Capability (ATC), while maintaining compliance with transmission tariffs, regulatory requirements and approved business practices. 
  • Posts all scheduled and unscheduled transmission outages on OASIS.
  • Performs daily checkouts of energy transfers with adjacent Control Areas.
  • Maintains Emergency Operating Center readiness as it pertains to scheduling.
  • Assists Generation System Supervisors during emergencies as it pertains to scheduling. This may include curtailing schedules due to line outages and/or redirecting schedules to accommodate unscheduled flow and other system disturbances.
  • Maintains separation of reliability and marketing functions in compliance with Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) regulations. 
  • Assists with After-the-Fact problem resolution.
  • Completes various special projects as assigned. These projects include, but are not limited to, the development and documentation of procedures, the configuration of software tools, and scheduling problem analysis and resolution. 
  • Enters day-ahead firm commitment values for reserve sharing.
  • Prepares reports as required by TEP or regulatory agencies.
  • Performs hourly dynamic tag adjustments. Balancing of contracts. 
  • This position may provide services to affiliates of the Company subject to the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and the related Policies and Procedures.


Assistant Scheduler (Entry Level) Responsibilities:

  • Successfully completes introductory training session modules and exercises.
  • Spends time on shift with Schedulers I - Senior to learn basic tagging and scheduling principles, TEP bulk power and transmission system resources and boundaries, and contract application.
  • Spends time on shift with Transmission Coordinator and Generation Supervisors to understand how scheduling functions affect each area and to learn basic principles of system operation.
  • Study WECC, NERC, FERC, and NAESB standards, regulations, business practices, and rules as they apply to the Position Related Responsibilities.
  • Can perform basic functions to progress to Scheduler I duties.
  • Successfully meets performance requirements and employee goals.


Scheduler I Responsibilities:

  • Includes all Assistant Scheduler (entry level) responsibilities as well as:
  • Perform Position Related Responsibilities with guidance from the Supervisor, Generation Supervisors, or other Schedulers
    May have multiple projects assigned at one time.
  • Successfully complete Scheduler I training Step modules and exercises, including quizzes and exams (TEP Energy Scheduler Training Program).
  • Successfully complete Western Electric Coordinating Council (WECC) Interchange training (optional based on Supervisor discretion).
