Position Summary:
The Biospecimen Coordinator will perform all aspects of biospecimen handling and BSI data entry. This includes the retrieval and preservation of biological samples, shipment, and in the data entry management of biospecimens via LIMS or BSI. This role would report to the Biospecimen Management Supervisor, providing support to logistics, laboratory and project management teams while maintaining adherence to global standard operation procedures.
Essential functions of the job include but are not limited to:
- Responsible for the coordination of biospecimens received at PFM Houston
- Monitor freezers, refrigerator and room temperatures as assigned by Supervisor
- Unpack specimens and record all pertinent information in BSI following project parameters
- The upkeep and storage of documents relating to biospecimen data for all studies
- Storage of biospecimen in the appropriate temperature conditions following guidelines set by project operating procedures
- Distribute confirmation of shipment receipt as specified by project requirements
- Receive supplies into inventory, verifying shipment contents against packing list
- Check information on sample vial against information provided by the study site
- Accession samples into data management system, BSI
- Correct paperwork where necessary and inform supervisor/manager of any discrepancies by generating a discrepancy report
- Assist in the inventory of returned specimens post processing
- BSI location review and update for samples stored in the following temperature conditions (ambient, 4 ºC, -20 ºC, -80 ºC, -196 ºC)
- Retrieve Samples from Inventory for Processing or Shipment, referencing sample pull list to document all action in BSI requisition
- Perform quality control verification of all outgoing samples, updating outgoing batch records
- Communicate with receiving labs/sites prior to and post shipment to confirm information provided, making aware of updates as it relates to the shipment
- Complete all paperwork (link-up forms, aliquot forms, return forms or BSI data collection sheets and any other forms which may be necessary)
- Label samples following POP directive
- Perform BSI data entry first QC, prior to verifying Data Collection Sheet (DCS)
- Complete assigned ZenQMS trainings and signoffs
- Carry out other duties/projects as assigned
Qualifications:
Minimum Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 2 years of general working experience
Other Required:
- Must be a flexible agile team player who can change activities and directions quickly and respond to a variety of assignment and changing business needs
- Familiarity with LIMS, excel and basic functions with both programs

- Ability to lift and carry between 31-50 lbs.; Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. overhead with assistance; frequently required to sit, stand and walk for prolonged periods; occasionally required to squat, bend, stoop, push, kneel, reach and perform tasks with repetitive motion; Will be exposed to a cold freezer environment (Freezer temperatures range between -20ºC -196ºC)
- Must be able to read, write, speak fluently, and comprehend the English language
Preferred:
- 1-2 year of relevant lab experience
- Basic laboratory skills
- Trained in aseptic technique

This compensation range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to: skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled.Reasonable estimate of the current range$15.50—$20.50 USD
