Job Description

The Senior Battery Engineer will lead the anode team in Advanced R&D group and contribute to all aspects of anode development, specifically Silicon, and release of a cell product based on 24M’s electrochemical storage technology. The senior engineer will serve as the key resource for anode product development and interface with 24m production group to deploy the new products consistent with market, customer, and manufacturing requirements.

Qualifications

  • MS/Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ post degree/industrial battery R&D experience.
  • Deep knowledge of the fundamentals of electrochemistry, cell design and performance, product development, pilot and production processes of Lithium ion‐based cells.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to combine theory with empirical observation.
  • Ability to interact effectively with vendors and colleagues.
  • Self‐motivated, persistent, hands‐on, and results oriented.
  • Able to supervise a team containing scientists, engineers, and technicians. 
  • Strong written and oral communication.
  • Ability to multi‐task and work in a fast‐paced environment.

Desired Experience and Skills:

  • Gr anode industrial experience is a plus.
  • 2+ year Silicon anode experience in the battery field is preferred.
  • Experience with R2R electrode process.

 Responsibilities:

  • Lead and directly contribute to the new designs, including but not limited to new materials evaluations, formulation development, and component selection for new generations of products.
  • Develop Si anode and demonstrate knowledge with Li-ion battery technology.
  • Execute analytical and electrochemical tests.
  • Interact with production group and gather feedback and present relevant data and action plans to address gaps.
  • Plan and manage all aspects of the core cell development from prototype to production release.
  • Oversee pilot process development and documentation, and support transfer to production scale.
  • Develop component and product specifications for both made and purchased components and assemblies.
  • Evaluate and develop suppliers and vendors.

Physical and Environmental Standards

  • Capable of working in low moisture dry room environment: < 1.0% Relative Humidity (-50°C dew point)
  • Capable of wearing clean room attire when working in dry room environment: face mask, hair net, safety glasses, gloves, coverall suit and shoe covers
  • Capable of meeting OSHA standards for manual lifting guidelines: < 50lbs
