JOB TITLE: LEAD MEDICAL ASSISTANT/ MEDICAL ASSISTANT 

REPORTS TO: Clinic Manager

MA Lead supports the mission, vision and values of Imperial Beach Community clinic, Develops relationship, Communication and MA skills with the overall goal of providing excellent patient-centered treatment, care and services in a team environment.

Lead MA

• Lead and provide support for the medical assistant team, which includes all functions of a medical assistant.
• Oversee and train new and existing staff as required along with the clinic manager.
• Participate in pre visit planning through team huddles
• Works collaboratively with clinic staff to improve patient outcomes. Assists in organizing and participating in quality improvement activities.
• Perform other administrative tasks and clinical care as assigned by the Clinic Manager. (Schedule, Checking Messages, Re-assigning, Collateral Duties etc.…)
• Coordinate the inventory, ordering and supply stock maintenance of medical supplies.
• Helping out other MA’s when they are busy (part of team environment).Being proactive rather than reactive.
• Performs other duties as assigned by management.
• Demonstrate knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and patient’s clinical condition within scope of practice.
• Perform patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age. •
• Demonstrate ability, under direct supervision of an RN, to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy including pediatric, geriatric and the general patient population.
• Demonstrate ability to perform treatments and provide services to level of licensure/scope of practice. • Demonstrate an ability to assist physicians with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills under the direction of an RN.
• Demonstrate an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
• Treat patients and their families with respect and dignity
• Ensure patient confidentiality
• Interact professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.
• Maintain a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
• Meet current documentation standards and policies with in electronic medical record.
• Manage and operates equipment safely and correctly.

MA Responsibilities

The Medical Assistant is responsible for a variety of patient care, technical, and clerical related functions. The Medical Assistant is responsible for the clinic patient flow by assisting members of the patient care team and providing a broad range of health care services. 

• Preparing Patients for Surgical Procedures
• Taking Medical Histories 
• Messages
• Assisting the Physician during Examinations or Procedures 
• Explaining Medical Procedures to Patients 
• Ordering and/or Collecting Laboratory Specimens
• Sterilizing Medical Instruments/ Collateral Duties
• Preparing Operating / Procedure Rooms 
• Follows all Safety Precautions
• Injections
• Keep patient exam rooms and nursing station stocked with supplies and organized.
