HPC Applications Analyst Associate

As an HPC Applications Analyst Associate you will be part of the high-performance computing (HPC) group, you will help ensure today is safe and tomorrow is smarter. Our work depends on HPC Applications Analyst joining our team to provide software installation and user support for the Alabama Supercomputer Authority (ASA) in beautiful Huntsville, Alabama. You will have an impact in supporting ASA in providing high-performance computing to public schools, public universities, and research centers around the state of Alabama.
HOW AN HPC APPLICATIONS ANALYST ASSOCIATE WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:
- Software installation and user support are the primary job duties.
- The applicant will receive training on the other technologies mentioned below.
- Software installation using compilers, make, cmake, Spack, Anaconda, etc.
- Installing packages in R, Ruby, and Perl.
- Installing software via Apptainer/Singularity.
- Writing LMOD module files.
- Writing documentation.
- Answering user help questions on Linux, HPC use, and software use.
- Automating tasks in scripting languages such as bash or Python.
- Testing software during installation and operating system updates.
- Helping with maintenance shutdown activities.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:
- Education: AA/AS/BA/BS or equivalent certification/experience, 0-2 years’ experience.
- A fundamental understanding of computer architecture (i.e. processor, memory, hard drive, operating system)
- A basic understanding of software architecture (i.e. data structures, algorithms, object-oriented programming)
- A basic understanding of computer security.
- Problem solving skills
- The ability to work independently or with a group.
- The ability to write simple technical documentation (i.e. took an English class).
- US Citizenship Required.
- Occasional travel.
Other optional skills
- Experience with any scripting language is a plus, but not required. (i.e. Python, Bash, MATLAB, Mathematica)
- Any experience using a high-performance computing system is a plus, but not required.
- Experience using Linux is a plus, but not required.
- Experience or training on databases is a plus, but not required.
- Experience doing computer technical support is a plus, but not required.
