We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Summer Intern to join our Field Quality Engineering Team and perform Root Cause Analysis of Customer Reported Issues. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Electrical / Electronic components and be able to work independently and collaboratively to ensure our systems are functioning efficiently.
Role/Responsibilities:
- Work on Root Cause Analysis of Field Reported Issues on Vehicle Systems such as Wiring, Electronic Systems, Mechatronics Components, Chassis, ADAS, Infotainment related issues.
- Support Warranty part return tear-down and analysis Field incident scrambles and investigation.
- Cultivate a synchronized relationship with cross-functional stakeholders including Hardware and Software Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Service and Quality with the objective of driving issues to a resolution.
- Support Functional Teams to resolution of complex and/or chronic issues in an accelerated pace.
- Consolidate inputs and material from cross-functional teams to create presentations and reports for internal and external stakeholders
- Communicate progress and status at Department Lead Level.
- Support Quality Objective achievement for Customer field claims on 3 Months-In-Service/6MIS/ALL MIS, Field service cost/time reduction, and Consumer Reports.
- Represent the Voice of the Customer (VOC) and drive feedback to Design and Manufacturing Engineering teams to catalyze improvements in product, process & equipment.
- Validate that implemented fixes are effective.
- Define and implement inspection metrics, constantly striving for higher quality.
- Perform audits on New Model Prototypes, Start of Productions, and Durability Fleet.
- Feed market quality experience into new model design specifications and Lessons Learned.
- Ability to travel domestically could be required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Field(s) of study: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering.
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD Degree program at an accredited university.
- Proof of enrollment in current or into next program (MS, PhD)
- Knowledge
- Knowledge - Experience with Electrical / Electronic components or systems such as Wiring Systems, Lighting, Connectors, Displays, Sensors, Radars, etc. is recommended.
- Previous School Projects contribution in the design, specification and implementation of Engineering Issues Resolution.
- Outstanding technical problem-solving abilities based on a strong grasp of engineering fundamentals.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proactive mindset and strong work ethic
- Ability to thrive in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment.
- Strong technical understanding of the fundamentals of Electrical Distribution Systems.
- Experience working with data acquisition systems.
- Experience with DFMEA, 8D, DOE other structured evaluation and problem-solving methodologies is a plus.
Program Information:
- Timing: May- August, or June-September pending class schedules.
- Duration of Internship: Our internship program is 12 weeks; the end date is flexible based on individual needs.
- Work Location & Environment: This position will be in Newark, CA, and is fully in-person. You must be prepared to start onsite for your first day of employment. The working environment will be a mix of lab & office work.
- Compensation: Student compensation is based on location and current degree level, non-negotiable ranging from $26 to $48.
