Certified Peer Support Worker will assist peers through a helping relationship to promote respect, trust, and warmth, and empower individuals to make changes and decisions to enhance their lives. The Certified Peer Support Worker (CPSW) will assist peers and provide case management services in the process of recovery, to help build resilience, and provide hope that recovery is possible.

Sheriff’s Office:

Provide overall support services for clients utilizing the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office Violence Intervention Program. The role involves building rapport and engaging with participants in a peer-to-peer mentorship capacity, determining the best community-based partners for service referral, and representing the Sheriff’s Office with considerable discretion, critical thinking, and independent judgment due to the mobile nature of the job and limited supervision.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Obtain relevant information about clients through interview and case history to determine level of severity of substance misuse and/or mental health problems.
2. Provide case management services for assigned clients based on needs identified and assist client in following through with programs directed at treatment and/or rehabilitation.
3. Assist clients in meeting goals established in Individual Service Plan.
4. Assist clients in directing their own recovery and advocacy processes.
5. Promote client skills for coping with and managing symptoms, while facilitating use of natural supports and enhancement of community living skills.
6. Provide client activities that emphasize acquisition, development, and expansion of rehabilitation skills needed to move forward in recovery.
7. Establish and maintain contact with community agencies, resources and professional necessary for successful case management for clients.
8. Transport clients to appointments and other service providers in the community.
9. Document case management process, maintain notes and complete records, forms and reports.
10. Maintain ethical standards of practice, competence, conduct and integrity, confidentiality, responsibility to clients.
11. Attend staff meetings and team conferences as assigned.
12. Anyone position may not include all the duties listed. However, the allocation of positions will be determined by the amount of time spent in performing the essential duties listed above.
13. Perform other job-related duties as assigned or required.

Sheriff’s Office:

1. Build rapport and actively engage with participants in a mentorship capacity.

2. Assess participant needs and determine appropriate community-based referrals.

3. Represent the Sheriff’s Office while serving participants with discretion and independence.

4. Utilize knowledge of crisis intervention, mediation, and motivational interviewing to assist participants.

5. Serve as a source of referrals, connecting participants with community resources and services.

6. Work collaboratively with community organizations, businesses, and advocates.

7. Prepare clear and concise reports and perform data entry tasks.

8. Maintain strict confidentiality regarding client information.

9. Communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written forms.

10. Manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines effectively.

11. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

12. Incumbent(s) in this classification may handle sensitive and/or confidential records, plans, documents, or decisions that require maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
