Position Summary

Responsible for monitoring, repair, and performing preventive maintenance program on all the hotel's kitchen equipment. This position requires consistent adherence to policies and procedures of the department as outlined in the Biltmore Standard Operating Procedures (BSOP’S). 


Responsibilities

  • Assist in start-up, shut down, and operation of all kitchen and refrigeration equipment.
  • Perform scheduled and non-scheduled maintenance on all kitchen equipment.
  • Identify and troubleshoot problems and make repairs accordingly.
  • Shut off steam, water, and gas supplies.
  • Perform appropriate plumbing requirements for kitchen equipment repairs as needed.
  • Perform preventive maintenance as described above in different hotel areas as necessary.
  • Assist other engineering staff as required.
  • Follow Chief Engineer and/or Hotel Management direction during emergencies such as but not limited to Hurricane, Bomb threat, Fire, National emergencies, etc.
  • Any assignment from his supervisor and/or hotel Chief Engineer as required.

Requirements

Experience and Education Required  

  • High School diploma and Trade school course work in related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a maintenance/engineer capacity.
  • Ability to properly investigate problems with food equipment, discover the issue, and correct it.
  • Repair and maintenance experience in the commercial kitchen or dining service field.
  • Strong knowledge of plumbing repair and installation practice and procedure.
  • Strong knowledge of basic electrical practice, theory, and safety.
  • Strong knowledge of the fundamentals of commercial refrigeration practice and theory.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to:
  • Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 100 pounds
  • Machinery and tool operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and hardhats
  • Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time or for an entire work shift
  • Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping
  • Use, carry, and operate all necessary office equipment using finger dexterity.
  • Communicate with employees, managers, subordinates and guests through verbal communication, hearing ability, and visual acuity.
  • Visually look at a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Adapt to moderate temperatures in the hotel as thermostat is controlled by hotel environmental systems. Most work tasks are performed indoors.
