Job Summary

Responsible for the development and administration of the grades K-12 curriculum and assessment program which includes training staff in curriculum development and effective teaching strategies. Responsible for student assessment to include implementation, collection, review and reporting of standardized test results. Acts as an instructional leader to work closely with campus leaders, and content teams to address the needs of the student learning community. Ensures consistency with Elementary, Middle and Secondary school curriculum and ensures curriculum is disseminated throughout all levels. Is part of an administrative support team to address the needs of teachers, students and parents relevant to student achievement, teaching and assessment and school design.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Works closely with staff and administration to develop a total education program, which includes the administration of special subjects' curriculum and special curriculum projects. Monitors current school-wide curriculum to ensure consistency with entire school curriculum.
  • Creates and maintains all curriculum guides. Ensures curriculum is disseminated and implemented consistently and appropriately at all school levels throughout the campus.
  • Under direction of the division heads and/or Hope Poʻo Kula, monitors quality and effectiveness of instruction and implementation of the K-12 curriculum by analyzing assessment results and regularly observing classes across grades K-12, at all division. Identifies and recommends areas for improvement from teacher discussions, test data and student observations.
  • Responsible for curriculum assessment in both instructional and program effectiveness. Prepares annual assessment report, coordinates student assessment to include selection and development of various instruments (norm referenced and curriculum based) and reviews results for student achievement.
  • Takes part in on going school improvement processes (e.g. coordination of accreditation work, school redesign). Make recommendations and assists in the formulation of short and long-term goals for campus; assists in the planning and implementation of strategies for meeting goals; prepares materials for workshops and meetings.
  • In conjunction with the appropriate staff, initiates and coordinates staff development and In-Service Training programs for teachers and classroom related staff. Identifies needs and plans appropriate workshops or activities to meet these needs.
  • Assists in the review and recommendation process for professional development requests, reviews reports from award recipients, and plans appropriate In-Service and/or presentation forums.

Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the requirements listed.

  • Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Psychology or closely related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of classroom teaching experience in grades K-12.
  • Knowledge of current theories and practices in K-12 curriculum instructional methodology (across all disciplinary areas), child development and staff development.
  • Active, committed involvement with professional curriculum and/or research organizations (e.g. National professional organizations for literacy, mathematics, science, etc.).
  • Excellent working knowledge of educational assessment (to include qualitative and quantitative research methods) ability to analyze, interpret and present data to a wide range of audiences including administrators, teachers and general staff.
  • Initiative and ability to function independently to facilitate professional and curriculum development (identifying needs, having breadth of professional knowledge and networking to select appropriate development activities, integrating new learning with current curriculum).
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a team environment; prioritize projects and lead working groups; plan and coordinate multiple assignments.
