PeopleCert is seeking a Junior Data Engineer who will be a dedicated resource for building and maintaining the data foundation that powers all reporting needs of LanguageCert government contracts. The role involves developing data pipelines, managing the data warehouse environment, and ensuring high-quality, reliable datasets for analytics and reporting.

As a ​​ Junior Data Engineer, your tasks will include the following:

  • Design, develop, and maintain ETL processes to extract, transform, and load data from various sources.
  • Build and optimize data models and datasets to support reporting and analytics requirements.
  • Manage and enhance data warehouse structures to ensure scalability, performance, and data integrity.
  • Write efficient SQL queries to manipulate, validate, and prepare data for analysis.
  • Develop scripts and automation solutions using Python for data integration and processing.
  • Collaborate with analysts and business stakeholders to translate reporting needs into robust datasets.
  • Ensure data accuracy, quality, and compliance with governance standards across all data processes.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot data pipelines, proactively identifying and resolving issues.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of data engineering practices and tools.

 

What we look for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field.
  • 1+ years of hands-on experience in ETL development, data engineering, or data warehousing.
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python for data manipulation and pipeline automation.
  • Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts and best practices.
  • Experience with data platforms such as Azure Synapse, Databricks, or Microsoft Fabric is a strong plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work with complex datasets.
  • High attention to detail and a focus on delivering accurate, high-quality data solutions.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams.

Working on Home Office (HO) Secure English Language Tests (SELTs)

Any person who is engaged by PeopleCert to work on the SELT service must undergo a Background Check (the results of which must be acceptable to PeopleCert and the HO) prior to commencing their SELT duties. All SELT personnel will be required to complete a declaration (provided by PeopleCert) where the existence of any criminal record and/or bankruptcy must be declared.

If working on the SELT service in the UK, background checks will include:

  • A basic or enhanced Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check
  • Right to Work in the UK check (including nationality, identity and place of residence)
  • HO security check (Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) or Counter Terrorist Check (CTC)
  • Financial background check
