About the role

JOB SUMMARY:

Manages activities and/or performs complex re-design and development efforts for mechanical / structural systems of theme park rides and attractions to provide increased reliability and operational improvements. Duties include support downtime recovery, troubleshooting, fault analysis, redesign assignments, test and start-up integration of Ride and Show systems. All work shall be in conformance with ASTM F24 Committee guidelines and compliant with applicable codes, regulations and standards including: AISC, ASME, ASTM, ANSI, AWS, JIC, NEC, and OSHA, among others. Development of some projects will require basic management of out sourcing services, third party consulting, contracts, and scheduling of work, in conjunction with Manager, Controls.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages re-engineering efforts for Rides and Attractions for complex mechanical, structural, hydraulic and pneumatic systems to improve safety, reliability, operational readiness throughput, cost of ownership, and quality in accordance with above references standards and guidelines. Interacts with UO Ride/Show Maintenance Departments for prioritizing project tasks and training initiatives to improve ride reliability and operational readiness.
  • Produce scopes of work and manage progress from design through installation. Develop and oversee project schedules and budgetary demands. Conducts design reviews. Monitors and interfaces with vendors/design-builders to resolve problems and design issues.
  • Prepares and reviews equipment specifications and performs technical evaluation of vendor products/services. Oversee mock-up, prototype, installations, test and adjustments of show and ride systems to ensure compliance with contractual specifications.
  • Coordinates engineering activities between vendors, engineers, ride supervisors, ride managers and technicians. Provides project status of assigned task list items to the appropriate ride manager and engineering manager on a regular basis. Updates project status via Maximo on a regular basis.
  • Provides technical direction, mentoring, technical assistance, delegation, and task prioritization for mechanical engineers and designers. Manage assignments and performance of assigned staff. Provide input for performance reviews for assigned staff.
  • Provide engineering dispositions for QC rejection reports, maintenance personal and Central Shops for TS activities.
  • Acts as mentor for associate level sustaining controls engineers.
  • Maintains configuration management of project documentation in accordance with Engineering’s guidelines.
  • Develops and conducts Acceptance Test Procedures on mechanical systems. Review of other engineer’s ATP’s.
  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SCOPE:

Responsible for performing complex re-design and development efforts of all Ride & Show systems to provide increased reliability and operational improvements. Responsible for providing sustaining (mechanical) engineering support for all Ride & Show systems parkwide both daily and on-call 24/7.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Mechanical, Structural or Civil Engineering or related field required.
  • Master’s degree from a four-year college or university in Mechanical, Structural or Civil Engineering or related field preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 7-10 years demonstrated project engineering experience of mechanical / structural systems in an engineering environment for the development of dynamic motion (mobile) systems in a theme park industry or;
  • 10+ years experience of mechanical/structural design associated w/ dynamic motion (mobile) systems and components or;
  • 10+ years of strong analytical skills to perform engineering calculations for design, analysis, test and implementation of mechanical, structural, hydraulic and pneumatic system modifications required.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • Proficient analytical skills to perform engineering calculations for design, analysis, test and implementation of mechanical, structural, hydraulic and pneumatic system modifications.
  • Proficient background in design of welded structures, beam elements, welded joints, structural steels, gearing, composite materials, manufacturing and fabrication processes as applies to AWS and AISC.
  • Proficiency in hydraulic and pneumatic design, and familiarity with components.
