Sr. Engineering Manager, Platform Engineering

DroneUp is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager of Platform Engineering (PE). Software Engineering Managers are responsible for their team’s human elements, for the system of engineering that the team that reports to them exists in. This position is also responsible for driving the development, maintenance and continuous improvement/support of both internal and client-facing cloud-based IT infrastructure as well as our internal developer platform and related tooling.

The ideal candidate is an experienced software engineer and has also spent time with people management / product direction roles. This position is a key driver of PE vision and strategy and interfaces with the Technical Product Manager for PE. The PE organization at DroneUp is responsible for the developer experience including all cloud, security, CI/CD and all related tooling and is working to build our internal developer platform for software delivery and orchestration at scale. Some of our principles in Platform Engineering are: self-service, security by default, a bias towards automation and emotional intelligence.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of platform engineers responsible for developing and maintaining the company's core infrastructure and internal developer platform
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product management and other software engineering teams to ensure the platform is meeting business needs and performance requirements
• Assist in design of a platform architecture that is scalable, resilient, and secure
• Ensure platform engineering best practices are followed, such as self-service, continuous integration and deployment, testing automation, and version control
• Pair with the Technical Product Manager in managing and prioritizing team tasks and projects, balancing business needs, technical constraints, and team member development
• Coach and mentor engineers, providing ongoing feedback and career development opportunities
• Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the team and across the organization
• Participate in hiring and onboarding new team members, ensuring a diverse and inclusive team
• Establish trusting partnerships between platform engineering and other engineering leaders like software architects, IT and Security leads

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent experience
• 3+ years of experience managing and leading platform engineering teams
• Strong technical skills, with experience in one or more programming languages and platforms, as well as cloud infrastructure and services
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
• Demonstrated ability to design and implement scalable and secure platforms in a cloud native environment
• Passion for coaching and developing team members, with a focus on creating a positive and inclusive team culture
• Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

Salary

$180,000 - $220,000
