Everest Insurance®, a Division of Everest Group, Ltd., is seeking a Assistant Vice President to assist its Financial/Management Reporting function.  This position will be in Everest’s corporate headquarters in Warren, New Jersey and will report to the Vice President – Insurance Accounting and Analysis.

The Everest insurance segment is a Specialty Diversified insurance company continuing its rapid growth and transformation with infrastructure, product enhancement and human capital investments.

This position will be part of the Insurance Reporting team. The team is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing the quarterly close process and controls for the Insurance segment.  The position will have an opportunity to build on a firm foundation of processes, enhance reconciliations, strengthen controls, expand analytics, and add efficiency and automation to the closing process. Requires deep knowledge of insurance systems and processes, and strong technical finance and accounting expertise.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and develop the reporting team
  • Manage the timing and accuracy of the quarterly close process including:
    • Establish appropriate expense accruals; bad debt reserves; CECL provision
    • Review, calculate and record deferred acquisition costs
    • Ensure the appropriate consolidation of non-insurance entities
    • Ensure quarterly balance sheet reconciliations are performed and reviewed
    • Perform detailed financial review and analytics
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors on key controls, processes, and reconciliations
  • Evaluation/Interpretation of GAAP and Stat accounting guidance and impact on company.
  • Provide timely internal reporting of P&C segment financial results and quarterly statutory financial results for the Board meetings
  • Identifies finance core processes for standardization/redesign; designs and develops process improvements and automation to accelerate the close
  • Designs and implements the necessary accounting system changes to ensure efficient and accurate processing of financial data; participate in the development and implementation of new General Ledger system
  • Develop and demonstrate solid command of the operational and financial context of the business

Requirements:

Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in the property and casualty insurance industry with an advanced understanding of all processes associated with financial analysis, reporting and controls.
  • CPA credential strongly preferred

  • Expert level knowledge of the full insurance income statement and balance sheet
  • Robust knowledge and experience in quarterly and annual financial close process
  • Expert knowledge, management, and execution of a robust control environment
  • Strong project management skills - extraordinarily well-organized
  • Strong analytical and technical communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Strong technology skills, demonstrated ability to work with and build databases, implementing automation tools; must be proficient in Microsoft Excel
