Summary of This Role

As  a leader of Core Engineering within the TSYS Issuer Technology organization of Global Payments, you will be responsible for leading design and engineering centered teams that support products across our consumer and commercial lines of business.  These teams leverage AWS cloud technologies to deliver solutions used by the largest bank, retail and financial services companies in North America and in Europe. 

Ideal candidates will demonstrate a mastery in designing and building cloud based applications, hands-on product development and design concepts, display an open communication style with strong writing, speaking and collaboration skills that allows them to work with a broad range of people from engineering team members to business executives.  

Key requirements include the ability to architect cloud based streaming applications, hands-on experience to fix issues as needed, develop engineering and design talent and organize teams to achieve speed to market.  Agile delivery and a heavy focus on the end-to-end user experience are also essential to the role.  Candidates with a proven track record of building a scalable engineering organization focused primarily on modernizing financial high volume scalable batch applications will receive special consideration.  

Manages the analysis, programming, and testing activities for system and/or software application development and service / support to include feasibility studies, time and cost estimates, and the establishment and implementation of new or revised software applications and/or systems. Advises and confers with team members on administrative policies and procedures, technical problems, priorities, and methods. Consults with team members in other areas to coordinate cross-functional activities. Oversees the effective development and implementation of programs to ensure that all software applications meet minimum organization standards and end-user requirements. Administers change control process for zero defect system development. Ensures adequate application testing prior to implementation.

What Part Will You Play?

• Oversee product development activities to modernize legacy batch applications with cloud based solutions in support of new strategic initiatives, product road map features and routine internal enhancements. 

• Hire, mentor and develop top-notch engineering talent.  Build and lead highly technical full-stack software development teams, focused on nimble delivery of streaming applications with cloud based solutions.  Leverage open technologies like Javascript, Python, Lambda, Airflow, Kafka, Java, Spring Boot, Kubernetes, Docker, DevOps and Cloud Technologies.  Implement end-to-end automation of the application development lifecycle.

• Your leadership will be instrumental in driving successful product delivery by demonstrating expertise in building high volume scalable batch applications. Engage with business units to develop strategies to support business direction. Working cross functionally with a broad set of partners, you will apply keen technical understanding, appreciation for simplicity, quality, and critical thinking.

• Drive speed to market leveraging agile execution practices; teams will be product road map and usability centered and must also produce designs that meet high standards for accessibility, scale and security.

• Foster a culture of operational excellence to drive higher levels of system reliability, feature quality and resiliency through modern delivery practices that eliminate operational risks and impacts to service levels.

• Act as the senior technical representative for the high volume streaming applications, providing direction to both business and technical teams and acting as the senior escalation point on technical issues. Drive solutions for highly complex and sensitive problems and provide direction for team members responsible for delivery.

• Understand internal and external customer’s strategic road maps and goals. Build influential relationships internally and with clients and partners. Direct the interaction and engagement between teams, clients and partners. Act as an ambassador and senior technology expert in
