About the role

Job Description

Description of Duties

  • Own and manage the global evidence management program and operating systems of the Forensic Services laboratories, ensuring the effective processing of all physical evidence associated with investigations and maintaining evidentiary admissibility standards.

  • Perform all evidence processing - image and data capture, data entry, and manage the evidence lifecycle in compliance with laboratory protocols for the West Point laboratory.

  • Ensure compliance with DEA regulations (for controlled substances), ISO 17025 requirements, and internal laboratory policies/procedures.

  • Coordinate and collaborate with global network of investigators, law enforcement agencies, and other regulatory agencies to facilitate evidence shipment both to and from the forensic labs.

  • Manage domestic and international shipping of both authentic and suspect pharmaceutical products, laboratory instrumentation, and laboratory supplies in collaboration with Global Trade Compliance and other governing logistics bodies.

  • Develop and deliver centralized training on evidence handling and Chain of Custody (CoC) for laboratory personnel and trusted partners.

  • Serve as expert and provide guidance on evidence handling techniques, including contamination prevention, packaging for shipment, and proper CoC documentation.

  • Develop and maintain internal cooperative working relationships with key contacts at company manufacturing and research facilities to support control standard requests.

  • Work with country authorities and law firms to identify legal pathways for sending samples, navigating various jurisdictions and requirements.

  • Participate in internal and external quality audits of laboratory practices particularly as it relates to evidence management and assist in the development and implementation of Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPAs).

  • Monitor, maintain, and report on global laboratory metrics.

  • Testify in court as a subject matter expert witness regarding laboratory evidence management procedures and practices.

  • Support ad hoc laboratory research and development for new technologies and techniques introduced into the lab, as well as assist with sample collection for these initiatives.

 

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in forensic science, criminal justice, or a related field.

  • Or, bachelor’s degree in any field with relevant evidence management and logistics experience.

 

Skills/Knowledge and Experience Required

  • Proven experience in evidence management or a related field within a laboratory setting.

  • Relevant experience in US shipping logistics, importation, and exportation. 

  • Strong understanding of forensic science principles, regulatory compliance, and Chain of Custody.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative laboratory environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan, direct, organize, and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.

 

Skills/Knowledge and Experience Preferred

  • Experience in forensic sciences and knowledge of pharmaceutical manufacturing and distribution operations.

  • Familiarity with counterfeit drug detection and investigations.

 

Language Requirements

  • Fluent in English required; proficiency in additional languages preferred.
