The Registered Polysomnographer performs sleep studies in a technical and efficient manner and scores sleep studies according to guidelines.JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of a Polysomnographer.
2. Demonstrates knowledge in the set-up and use of nasal CPAP, BiPAP, ASV, AVAPS, End Tidal CO2, Transcutaneous CO2, Home studies and oxygen.
3. Acquires study data per department policies including the initiation of video taping upon patient arrival.
4. Scores all in lab and home studies according to the latest practice parameters.
5. Handles lab chemicals with appropriate safety precautions to self and others.
6. Documents on study per policy.
7. Maintains neat and clean work area.
8. Maintains log book for all studies performed.
9. Assists with training of new staff.
10. Completes Interscorer Reliability by the 15th of each month.
11. Performs confirmation calls.
12. Correctly enters charges.
13. Completes EPIC process to assign and end studies ensuring studies are assigned to the proper physician.
14. Demonstrates competency in the assessment, range of treatment, and knowledge of growth and development appropriate to the age of patient treated. (Neonate, pediatric, adolescent, or geriatric).
15. Demonstrates/models the hospital’s core values and customer service behaviors in interactions with all customers. (Internal and external).
16. Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network/ Entity as well as the proper release of information.
17. Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements.
18. Demonstrates/models the Network’s Service Excellence Standards of Performance in interactions with all customers (internal and external).
19. Demonstrates Performance Improvement in the following areas as appropriate: Clinical Care/Outcomes, Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Safety.
20. Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes and practices.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
1. Completes 10 CEU in sleep by 12/31 every year.
2. Maintains CPR certification.
3. Follows remediation policy for any interscore that does not meet the sleep lab standard.
PHYSICIAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Sitting up to 8 hours per day in 4 hour increments. Standing up to 4 hours per day in 2 hour increments. Walking up to 2 hours per day in 15 minute increments. Frequently uses fingers to manipulate small electrodes, syringes, etc. Continuous use of hands for writing, operating equipment, etc. Occasional twisting and turning of hands and body. Occasional lifting/carrying of objects up to 25 pounds. Occasional pushing/pulling of equipment/patients up to 450 pounds. Occasional stooping/bending and reaching above shoulder level. Rarely crouches or kneels. Ability to feel needed in placing electrodes. Hearing as it pertains to normal, high, and low frequencies. Seeing as it pertains to general, near, far, color, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Visual monotony.
POTENTIAL ON-THE-JOB RISKS:
At risk for cuts and punctures, being confined to small spaces, slippery surfaces, assault and battery, radiation, chemical and biohazards, injuries from operating machinery, burns and back injuries. Employees who work in patient care areas where they may have potential exposure to patients with suspected or proven tuberculosis (TB) must have the ability to wear a particulate respirator and be fit-tested in compliance with the current recommendations from the CDC (enforced by OSHA) or must provide physician documentation as to the inability to wear a particulate respirator.
SPECIFIC PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE:
