JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Certified Medical Assistant provides quality patient care and educational experiences through administrative, clinical, and other duties. 

  1. Obtains patient medical information and vital signs per protocols. 
  2. Records and reports patient concerns to the medical provider. 
  3. Records patient medical history, vital statistics, or information such as test results and vaccines in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  4. Prepares patient and exam room for examinations and procedures. 
  5. Assists provider with examining and treating patients during medical procedures.
  6. Performs such tasks as giving injections and medications as directed by the provider.
  7. Collects blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, logs the specimens, and prepares for testing.
  8. Educates and communicates to patients on results, follow-up care, or discharge instructions.
  9. Obtains and schedules patient referral appointments with outpatient testing or additional care.
  10. Scans and enters immunizations and medical data into the electronic health record system.
  11. Cleans and sterilizes instruments and disposes of contaminated supplies.  
  12. Maintains and replenishes supplies and keeps the exam rooms neat and clean.
  13. Performs other related duties as assigned. 

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: Six (6) months of experience as a certified medical assistant.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Must be a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) in the state of Tennessee. (COPY OF CERTIFICATION REQUIRED)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge to record patients' medical history, vital statistics, vital signs, weight height, pain score, and information such as test results in medical records.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and respectfully with patients and colleagues. 
  • Skills to work independently, be attentive to details, have time management, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to work in a team, travel to other locations, and work in a fast-paced, flexible, and adapting work environment. 
  • Computer literacy and ability to document in electronic medical records.
