Job Description: Powertrain Sr Staff Controls System Engineer - Transmissions

Polaris Industries, a global leader in the powersports industries with iconic brands such as Indian Motorcycle, RZR and Ranger, is recruiting for a Powertrain Controls System Engineer.  This position leads a small team responsible for the advanced control strategies at the heart of the vehicle which impact powertrain, transmission and vehicle functions for future cutting-edge vehicles. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize powertrain controls features and interfacing hardware to optimize and enhance vehicle performance and efficiency.
  • Interface with internal teams and vendors to gather information and define requirements for powertrain controls systems.
  • Decompose vehicle level requirements into transmission system and controls requirements.  
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and validation of control systems into vehicles.
  • Conduct testing and support validation of powertrain control algorithms and software.
  • Troubleshoot software issues and work with vendors to implement effective solutions.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of the ISO 26262 functional safety process and assist in ensuring compliance during control system development.
  • Support the development and implementation of the long-term strategy for transmission control systems.
  • Manage a small team of direct reports executing specific functions of the powertrain and transmission controls system.   

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years in powertrain controls development and engine/transmission testing and calibration.
  • Proven experience in engine or transmission calibration and tuning, preferably in a fast pace setting.
  • Strong understanding of software algorithms and their application in torque control systems.
  • Ability to create prototype software utilizing Simulink and other prototyping tools.
  • Proficiency in CAN communication protocols, specifically J1939 and UDS.
  • Experience with ISO 26262 functional safety process with regards to controls development.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills for software-related issues.
  • Effective communication skills towards conveying highly technical information to cross-functional teams.
  • Self-motivated and able to thrive in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Experience supervising and developing a small team of systems engineers. 

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Position will be based out of the Wyoming MN office.
  • Fast paced testing and vehicle field development environment
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of time to areas in the continental U.S. including supplier-partner visits and in-field vehicle development trips.
