Team Overview

The Lab Manager will oversee the use of the Optical Systems Engineering laboratories in Luminar’s Orlando headquarters, and assist in the execution subassembly test and validation for Luminar’s Lidar Sensor. This will include collaborating, providing direct feedback as well as technical support to the engineering team. This position requires a strong understanding of electrical and optical measurement equipment and data acquisition techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the use, maintenance, and calibration of a wide variety of laboratory equipment
  • Create standard operating procedures for basic measurements
  • Establish training programs/protocols and log for users
  • Procure parts for, build, align and calibrate custom testbeds and test equipment
  • Support Optical Systems engineers to execute multiple different types of tests including but not limited to bench top and system level characterization/functionality at ambient as well as over different environmental conditions
  • Provide test data and results to test engineers for further analysis
  • Troubleshooting failed assemblies with engineering oversight and support root cause analysis as needed
  • Execute automated software using LabVIEW and/or MATLAB

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years applicable experience with electro-optical systems or equivalent
  • Ability to collaborate in a team environment and work independently
  • Fundamental knowledge of engineering optics, electronics and mechanics
  • Associate's Degree (systems, optics, electrical, physics)
  • Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of optical test equipment such as spectrophotometer, coherence scanning microscope, Fizeau interferometer, scatterometer, wavefront sensor

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in STEM field
  • Experience with environmental test chambers (temperature/humidity)
  • Experience with Keyence microscopes
  • Experience with Zygo metrology equipment
  • Experience using and programming Zeiss CMMs

At Luminar, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays a base between $100,000 and $160,000 per year. Within this range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. You will also be eligible to receive other benefits including: equity in the form of restricted stock unit awards, comprehensive medical and dental coverage, 401k plan, life and disability benefits, flexible time off, paid parental leave, and tuition reimbursement for formal education related to advancing your career at Luminar. The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire and schedule type.
