About the role

Outlook is one of the most widely used communication and productivity tools in the world, and Copilot is transforming how millions of users engage with it through the power of AI. As we continue to evolve Outlook into a truly intelligent, context-aware assistant, we’re looking for a Principal Applied Sciences Manager to lead a team of exceptional applied scientists at the forefront of this transformation.

We are looking for candidates who are people-oriented and comfortable defining a path through ambiguity towards high-level goals. Ideal candidates will have at least 5 years of experience doing state-of-the-art applied science in industry and will likely have an extensive publication record that demonstrates their ability to do so. This should include at least some time managing a team towards highly-ambitious goals. Professors with analogous experience and a stellar academic track record leading a high-achieving research lab may also be a good fit for the role. The team will likely need to focus in areas like non-parametric memory, proactive AI systems, novel HCAI experiences, agentic systems, reasoning models and related domains. The team will also work closely with partners in Microsoft Research to see their ideas realized in products and services that are used worldwide, and will also contribute back to the scientific community (e.g. via publications).

This position is based at the Redmond campus and supports up to 50% work from home and a minimum of 50% work in the office.
