About the role

Overview

Plans and directs the exercise progression of patients in all phases of the Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program. Prescribes, implements and evaluates patient’s individual activity/exercise levels, while sharing the responsibility for patient and family education. Interprets exercise tolerance test to formulate exercise prescriptions.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with screening and selecting patients for participation in the Cardiac Exercise Program. Assists with pulmonary screening.
  • Collects patient historical, physical, and laboratory data base, identifying patient's cardiac/pulmonary activity/exercise related problems, evaluating patient's responses to activities of daily living, exercise program, activity progression, and risk-factor modification, etc.
  • Ensures adequate supplies, equipment maintenance, and a safe working/exercise environment. Performs daily checks on exercise equipment. Orders and schedules repair of equipment.
  • Maintains statistical records of patients' participation in the Program.
  • Assists in long-range planning of Program. Maintains standards for American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. (AACVPR) Program certification.
  • Educates health care professionals and community about cardiac/pulmonary rehabilitation, coronary artery disease, lung disease, primary and secondary prevention.
  • Documents data for the quality productivity management system. Compiles and maintains data regarding cardiac/pulmonary rehab outcomes.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
  • Qualifications

    • BS in Physical Therapy or Exercise Physiology/Rehabilitation, or the equivalent in education and experience required.
    • Master’s degree preferred.
    • 1 year of clinical experience with exercise stress testing and ECG monitoring preferred.

    Required Licensure/Certifications

    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) required within three (3) months of hire.
    • BLS required at time of hire.
