Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Public Health is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as Assistant General Counsel, providing legal advice, analysis, and response for the Department's emergency medical services program (EMT licensure), preparedness and response activities and administrative litigation. Ideal candidate will have strong communication skills and the ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously. This candidate will also have excellent communication skills with program and legal colleagues.

Job Responsibilities

1.  Participates with members of the legal staff the Division of Governmental Affairs and program personnel in preparing and interpreting bills of public health significance introduced into the General Assembly as well as in the preparation of rules regulations and standards required in the implementation of statutes administered by the Department of Public Health.

 

2.  Serves as Department attorney in administrative hearings including but not limited to those conducted under the Emergency Medical Services Act and cases under the Nursing Home Care Act including the preparation of notices motions complaints orders and similar legal documents and in the presentation of oral and written evidence at such administrative hearings.
