Work study student employees are representative of Mayo Clinic, working cooperatively with all Mayo Clinic staff, external clients, students, and advisors. The Mayo Clinic Center for Cell Signaling in Gastroenterology's (C-SiG) mission is to improve understanding of the signaling pathways that control the function of gastrointestinal cells in health and disease. A portion of our C-SiG resources are focused on supporting the development of biospecimen collections related to digestive diseases. The Biobank for Gastrointestinal Health Research (BGHR) allows scientists to study why some people develop polyps, cancers and other disorders in their gastrointestinal (GI) tract. The C-SiG Liver Biobank allows scientist to study diseases such as fatty liver disease, hepatic steatosis, and primary biliary cirrhosis.
The successful candidate will perform a variety of clerical and support functions for researchers such as database entry, abstracting of health information from medical records, performing clinical database searches, guiding participants to where they have their blood drawn, and assisting with collection of tissues in the endoscopy suites.
Additional tasks will include assembling paperwork packets, reviewing surveys for completion, sending invitation letters to participate in a biobank by contributing biospecimens (blood, surgical tissue, stool, tissue collected during endoscopy, and etc) and sending reminder letters, surveys, etc. to participants who have previously consented to participate in a biobank.
Attention to detail is essential while dealing with multiple tasks. Flexibility is important in adjusting to frequent changes in work priorities. Once trained in you will work relatively independently but will have access to support if you have questions or a new situation you have not encountered arises.
The incumbent must be enrolled in a degree program from a college or university and possess skill set to do assigned work. *To be considered, you must include your Work Study Referral form at time of application which includes your UMR Student ID #, UMR email address and work study award amount.*
