Summary:
The Assistant Dean works collaboratively with the AUWCL leadership team, University leaders and the third-party partners to develop, implement and support a high-quality online Master of Legal Studies (MLS) degree program and serves as the administrative, strategic and organizational lead for this effort. The Assistant Dean supports the AUWCL faculty with online learning and course design for JD, LLM, or SJD offerings and programs.
Essential Functions:
Strategic Planning & Administration: Leads and guides all aspects of AUWCL’s online educational operations, including MLS, LL.M. and certificate courses. Oversees the strategic development and long-range planning of the MLS program, including curriculum, faculty sourcing, and marketing. Devises and implements new policies and procedures with University functions including Admissions, Registrar, Financial Aid, Student Accounts, Marketing, the Budget Office and other entities as required. Serves as the primary administrator for the program and the primary liaison between AUWCL and 2U. Oversees the course scheduling process and coordinates with existing and future external partners
Curriculum, Faculty, & Immersions/Practicums: Develops and identifies additional programs and elective courses for online or cross enrollment curricular opportunities. Determines recommended sequencing of courses. In collaboration with the Assistant Dean of Adjunct Faculty Affairs, cultivates, recruits, and works to retain strong adjunct faculty for online teaching. Identifies faculty training and resources, provides faculty support and coaching, and reviews student evaluations of teaching. Organizes one immersion per term. Hires faculty to lead the immersions.
Enrollment Management & Student Advising: Interprets and monitors University and AUWCL Admissions policies for partners, (currently 2U). Sets and maintains expectations for admission counselors, and coordinates with on campus admissions colleagues to ensure congruent policies. Reviews applications, identifies and works to improve systemic practices/policies affecting student experience, and creates solutions with Office of Student Accounts regarding deposit creation and student billing. Communicates with University offices, including AU Central, Veteran Services, Financial Aid, Associate Dean of Students, and Academic Support & Access Center, among others, regarding policy and procedures affecting online students. Manages post-enrollment functions to support the academic and career advising functions for the students including coordination with external partners (2U).
Financial Management: Monitors and maintains the Online Program budget, completes quarterly reconciliations with 2U, and approves faculty stipend payments.
Supervision: Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates direct reports.
Technical Training: Oversee technical training for faculty related the online learning platform.
