Description
Job Title: Quality Control Analyst
Department: Quality Control
Reports To: QA/QC Compliance Manager
Pay Rate: $21 - $23 per hour, with a $2 shift differential
Main Function:
The QC Analyst is responsible for QC in the production of spin disks, tablets, test strips, and reagents as needed. When not acting as a QC Analyst, this person will use their analytical chemistry knowledge & skills to troubleshoot and problem-solve QC production issues, evaluate & resolve customer complaints, test incoming raw materials, maintain QC standards & pipette calibration programs, and work on special projects as assigned.
Schedule & Hours:
· 2nd Shift (Monday through Friday, 3pm – 11:15pm)
Duties/Responsibilities:
Spin Department
1. Responsible for preparing standards and vats used in the daily testing of SPIN disks.
2. Conducts performance tests on start-up and hourly disk samples.
3. Conducts physical/vacuum testing on pouched disk products.
4. Responsible for testing bbs for iron contamination before they are put into production.
5. Responsible for interpreting data and making reagent adjustments as needed.
6. Investigates customer complaints pertaining to SPIN products.
TesTabs Department
1. Tests tablet pre-mix and determine whether pH is within specification. Tests pre-mix of other formulations for unity and strength when appropriate.
2. Conducts performance and physical attribute testing on bulk powders.
3. Conducts performance and physical attribute tests on unstripped tablets at the beginning, middle, and end of the process.
4. Conducts performance, physical attribute, and vacuum testing on final stripped tablets.
5. Tests reagent powders. (This requires the use of the SMART2 meter and wet chemistry tests.
6. Records QC test results.
7. Tests incoming raw materials used in TesTab production.
8. Investigates customer complaints pertaining to TesTab products.
Test Strips Department
1. Conducts testing at all stages of Instatest Production. This includes raw material approval, in-process approvals and final release of test strips to the bottling stage.
2. Responsible for the daily/monthly maintenance of pool vats used for test strip testing.
3. Generates all color charts, overlays, and in-house labels for Production. This also includes any prototype “color” work requested by R&D, Marketing, and Production.
4. Investigates customer complaints pertaining to Instatest products.
5. Prepares Certificates of Analysis/Conformance at customer’s request.
6. Responsible for the QA log of Nonconforming Material Reports.
7. Complies with all Company policies (i.e., personnel, safety, etc.)
8. Performs other duties as assigned.
Reagents and Powders Department
1. Conducts QC testing on all liquid reagents and powders.
2. Provides adjustments to Reagent and powder prep technicians.
3. Conducts QC testing on incoming raw materials, including chemicals and apparatus.
4. Prepares and tests “QC Make” reagents.
5. Responsible for preparing standard stock solutions used by QC.
6. Responsible for preparing standards for the meter department.
7. Trains new department employees.
8. Assists in the clean-up of hazardous material spills.
9. Responsible for hazardous waste disposal.
10. Assists with refilling solvent bottles used in the lab from drums located in the solvent shed.
11. Provides QC support to other product lines in the absence of other QC analysts/technicians.
QA/QC
· Maintains QC standards.
· Maintains pipette calibration program.
· When time permits, assists QA/QC Compliance Manager and QA/QC Analyst with:
- Troubleshooting and problem-solving QC production issues.
- Evaluating and resolving customer complaints.
- Testing incoming raw materials.
- Working on special projects as assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications/Requirements:
· Requires a BS degree preferably in chemistry but will accept B.S. in science which included chemistry courses & lab experience; excellent written and oral communication skills; good computer skills for statistical & data analysis and excellent color perception.
· In addition, this person must be able to work both independently and with a team, be able to transport up to 40 lbs. and wear a chemical respirator.
