Operates Light Rail Vehicles (LRV) through the wash and pre-wash bays. Thoroughly cleans all sides of LRV as required by the Rail Maintenance Supervisor. Service any District vehicles, including checking and topping off all fluids, sand boxes and adjusting tire inflation pressures, etc. This is a safety sensitive position subject to the rules and regulation of the Drug and Alcohol policy.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the loading and unloading of lead weight bars and test equipment when required.
  • Cleans maintenance pits and bays.
  • Performs visual checks of vehicles to identify vehicle damage and/or mechanical/electrical problems and report to supervisor.
  • Replaces torn or soiled seats as needed.
  • Accurately records fluids and/or sand used.
  • Operates district vehicles in a safe manner.
  • Removes old route, monthly passenger news brochures or other materials and replace with new when directed.
  • Cleans individual LRV pieces, parts and sub-assemblies as directed by the Rail Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Performs all phases of interior and exterior cleaning of the LRV as directed by the Rail Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Uses chemicals in a safe manner following RTD safety policies, procedures and environmental guidelines.
  • Waxes, buffs, details interiors and exteriors as assigned.
  • Conducts self in an appropriate manner as a representative of RTD working effectively in a diverse work environment.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must have a valid Colorado Drivers License or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire, and an acceptable driving record without DUI, DWI or reckless driving in the past 24 months.
  • Able to pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination by obtaining a DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate for a minimum of one (1) year qualifying period and maintain a current DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate thereafter. Medical Examiner must have a National Registry number.
  • Able to pass a required Physical Ability Assessment (PAA) related to the physical requirements of the essential functions of the job.
  • Able to certify as a forklift operator within the qualifying or probationary period.
  • Able to become certified in Light Rail Vehicle operations.
  • Must be able to drive a manual vehicle.
  • Able to learn basic mechanical skills and safety practices, and perform tasks in an efficient manner with a high level of dependability, reliability and safety.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience driving heavy vehicles.
  • Previous experience working with industrial cleaning and supplies.
