Description

The San Francisco SPCA was founded on the principle that a small group of people, working together and working strategically, could make a huge impact on the lives of animals. Over the last century and a half, that has proven to be true. We’ve set out to achieve a goal of impacting 5 million lives in 10 years with what we call Vision 2030. We are not only impacting lives in San Francisco, but also expanding our reach throughout the state of California. To achieve this goal, access to basic veterinary care will be imperative. 


The Community Engagement Coordinator will play a key role in expanding our impact in Stockton by linking low and no-cost spay and neuter services with animals in need. They will work closely with veterinary staff, service providers, community members, and Stockton shelters to form new partnerships and ensure efficient use of available spay/neuter appointments. This role involves both community outreach and hands-on involvement with animals during clinic operations, including setup, patient preparation, and recovery. It's a newly created position that may adapt to evolving community needs. Full-time preferred; part-time considered for suitable candidates.


Core Responsibilities

  • Identify and fill available spay/neuter appointments through local service providers
  • Schedule SF-based and/or locally based veterinary staff and volunteers for spay/neuter clinic days
  • Engage with community members to discuss spaying and neutering pets, and direct them to resources
  • Assist at Stockton spay/neuter clinics organized by SF SPCA - set up, prepping for surgery, and recovering patients
  • Facilitate good relationships with service providers, clinical staff, & shelter representatives through teamwork & collaboration
  • Gather data, build reports and present to leadership on progress and impacts of the effort
  • Basic veterinary terminology, spay/neuter procedures, and preventive care with ability to explain to clients in laymen’s terms
  • Work effectively with individuals and colleagues from diverse communities and cultures 

An outstanding candidate will possess

  • 2-3 years clinical experience as a Registered Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Assistant
  • Experience working in a HQHVSN or shelter setting
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate people
  • Commitment to the mission, values, goals, and success of the San Francisco SPCA
  • Ability to comfortably speak before groups of people
  • Ability to communicate skillfully and effectively with diverse communities
  • Solid computer skills and database experience
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment, embrace and foster change, problem solve and multi-task
  • Knowledgeable of animal welfare issues
  • Thorough understanding of local community
