The Seasonal Life Safety Inspector Role:

The Seasonal Life Safety Inspector position reports to the Fire Alarm Inspection Supervisor. The Seasonal Life Safety Inspector aids our full-time Fire Alarm Inspectors during our busiest season. The Seasonal Life Safety Inspector works with a small team to conduct on-site inspections on various brands of Fire Alarm Systems for our clients, including K-12 public school districts, colleges and universities, government entities, and small, medium, and enterprise-level commercial businesses, many of which require stringent background clearances. This role also requires local, state, and federally-mandated inspection documentation to be completed accurately and submitted in a timely manner. Our clients are predominantly located within the state of Pennsylvania, though travel to our York and State College offices, as well as occasional overnight travel may be necessary. Berkshire Systems Group, Inc. provides the Seasonal Fire Alarm Inspector with all necessary tools and training to complete the job duties. This position is a great opportunity for a college student home on spring/summer break or someone curious about starting a career in the Life Safety Industry without a full-time commitment.


Who we’re looking for:

A highly motivated team member with a passion for detail to aid in the inspection of fire alarm and security systems and would like to contribute to the growth of the Inspections department at BSGI. Also, someone who wants to provide World Class service to our customers through assistance to a Lead Inspector. The Seasonal Life Safety Inspector job entails:

  • Assisting our full-time Fire Alarm Inspectors in performing inspections & testing of fire and security systems to ensure proper functionality and fire code compliance using specific procedural standards for integrity. The devices include smoke detectors, pull stations, horn strobes, and associated devices
  • Utilizing basic hand tools and electrical instruments
  • Processing associated documentation in accordance with company and customer contractual standards
  • Working under direct supervision and in accordance with instructions and techniques
  • Anything necessary to contribute to the success of the Inspection department

Where you’ll be located:

  • You will be based out of our corporate office in Reading
  • Travel to customer sites daily will be necessary
  • You need to be 18 years of age to drive a company vehicle with a valid driver’s license and good driving record


Requirements

Physical Requirements:

Physical Fitness: Possess the physical ability to ascend/descend ladders and stairs, and access elevated areas to inspect system components installed at various heights.

  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time and frequently bend, twist, reach, stoop, kneel or crouch.
  • Must have hand dexterity to manipulate and handle materials.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on a daily continuous basis. Any lifting over 50 pounds will be done with the assistance of a mechanical device or with the assistance of another employee.

Mobility: Ability to move freely and safely within tight spaces, crawl spaces, attics, and other areas where systems are installed.

Vision: Possess visual acuity in at least one (1) eye of 20/40 or better combined vision without corrective lenses or over 20/70 combined vision with corrective lenses. Possess ability to distinguish colors.
