About the Position: 

The Arboretum and Botanical Garden at Cal State Fullerton works to support the academic mission of CSUF with a world class living and historical collection and to provide learning opportunities for every stage of life, extending our resources into the local community and around the globe to foster an appreciation for plant conservation, botanical research and horticulture. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Director, Arboretum and Botanical Garden (Administrator III). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

The Director provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and strategic direction for the 26-acre Arboretum and Botanical Garden (Arboretum), ensuring its continued success and sustainability as a botanical and educational resource for Cal State Fullerton and the surrounding community. The Director is responsible for managing staff, overseeing educational and outreach programs, collaborating with the staff and community to grow the Arboretum's collections, developing and executing fundraising and donor relations strategies, and managing and overseeing the garden's self-support activities, including facility rentals. Fosters partnerships with the university, community, and industry partners to enhance the arboretum’s role in research, education, and public engagement. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in biology, botany, environmental sciences, education, public administration, public garden management, or a related field, and brings at least eight years of management experience. Proven track record of success in managing public gardens or similar non-profit organizations, developing and leading staff, and cultivating donor relationships and fundraising efforts. Expertise includes project management, financial and budget analysis, outreach and public relations, effective communication, and organizational development. Adept at building strong partnerships with both internal and external stakeholders.
