Clearance: Active DoD Secret Clearance


Work Schedule: Onsite and shipboard environments. Monday–Friday, 40 hours per week, with occasional travel. Shipboard testing events may require up to two weeks at sea per quarter.


Role Overview:

The Fires C2 Systems Integration & Test Engineer will support the installation, configuration, operation, and testing of fire support command and control systems, including the Advanced Field Artillery Tactical Data System (AFATDS), Joint Automated Deep Operations Coordination System (JADOCS), and Joint Tactical Common Operational Picture Workstation (JTCW) with the Effects Management Tool (EMT). This role involves conducting testing in lab, tactical, and shipboard environments; developing and executing test procedures; troubleshooting technical issues; and providing over-the-shoulder training to operational users. The position also includes Planning, Execution, Analysis, and Reporting (PEAR) of fires systems in support of integration and demonstration events.

Specific Skillset

  • Install and configure Advanced Field Artillery Tactical Data System (AFATDS) in lab, tactical, or shipboard networks
  • Operate AFATDS to generate, receive, and process fire missions and Variable Message Format (VMF) messages with other AFATDS systems and simulation tools (e.g., VMF Test Tool, DFSTS)
  • Configure tactical and shipboard radios for AFATDS VMF transmissions with distant end users, including Naval Fires Control System (NFCS)
  • Integrate Joint Tactical COP Workstation (JTCW) clients with AFATDS using Effects Management Tool (EMT) for track and overlay data exchange
  • Connect JTCW/EMT clients with Tactical COP Server (TCS) to ingest GCCS track and overlay data
  • Install updates and configure JADOCS in lab, tactical, and shipboard networks
  • Operate JADOCS to support targeting and fire support missions
  • Configure AFATDS and JADOCS interfaces for GCCS, Link-16, and VMF data exchange
  • Conduct over-the-shoulder training on installation, configuration, and operation of JADOCS, AFATDS, and JTCW/EMT
  • Execute shipboard testing events, both pier-side and at-sea (up to two weeks per quarter)
  • Plan, execute, analyze, and report (PEAR) fire support systems performance in integration and demonstration tests
  • Develop test cases, procedures, and functional checklists for fires-related test events
  • Troubleshoot, document, and brief test teams on technical issues with fire support C2 systems

Requirements

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related technical field (preferred)
  • Military or industry training in AFATDS, JADOCS, or fires systems integration (preferred)

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 4–6 years of experience in fire support command and control systems (AFATDS, JADOCS, or related)
  • Hands-on experience conducting systems integration and interoperability testing in tactical or shipboard environments
  • Experience developing and executing test plans, procedures, and reporting
