About the role

Position Description

Serco is seeking a Principal Computer System Analyst – Terrain Designer to join our dedicated team at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) Mission Training Complex (MTC) in Washington state. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge simulation and mapping technologies supporting critical Army exercises.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop and maintain One World Terrain (OWT) Map operations standards.
  • Develop and maintain OWT Map training operations for class instruction.
  • Implement partial OWT Map system life cycle, including hardware installation, maintenance, software installation, patching, configuration, administration, and manual process optimization.
  • Perform operational analysis of OWT and Virtual 3D (V3D) Map operations, supporting exercises to maintain and optimize utilized Map systems based on customer-specific requirements.
  • Analyze hardware and software system capabilities against customer requirements and develop approaches using on-hand resources.
  • Participate in developing logistics and personnel planning documents to fulfill Simulation Control Plans (SCP).
  • Perform systems integration tests using simulation-derived databases into OWT software and systems.
  • Develop command line operating system scripts and build software routines to improve and simplify repetitive technical functions and procedures.
  • Perform vulnerability and security scans on system hardware and software, and report results to software developers and information security managers.
  • Test and distribute OWT Map computer images required for exercises.
  • Ensure OWT Map systems are operational and ready for deployment to support events.
  • Install, configure, integrate, and administer OWT Map systems during Warfighter Exercises (WFX).
  • Implement technical support solutions for forward-deployed OWT systems.
  • Operate OWT software functionally to meet event requirements.
  • Gather forward operations data and feedback to identify shortfalls in OWT and V3D Mapping software and communicate with rear-operations support staff.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with a minimum of 9 years Joint Land Component Constructive Training Capability (JLCCTC) and/or OWT Map operations experience, or
  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 5 years of JLCCTC and/or OWT Map operations experience, or
  • Master’s degree with a minimum of 3 years of JLCCTC and/or OWT Map operations experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of Mission Command Staff experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience operating MTC events and/or experience working with large geospatial datasets and 3D terrain data.
  • Must have or be able to obtain CompTIA Security+ CE within 6 months of hire.
  • Proficient in GIS software, including ESRI ArcGIS, Blue Marble Global Mapper, and Qgis.
  • Familiarity with 2D/3D terrain development software such as Army Site Terrain Tool (ASTT), Rapid Unified Generation of Urban Databases (RUGUD), Terra Tools, and/or Terra Vista.
  • Must have an active U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance.
  • Must be able to work on-site at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.
  • Must be able to travel as needed (up to 25% of the time).

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Strong operational knowledge of terrain mapping systems and geospatial software.
  • Ability to independently manage and support complex terrain generation tasks for simulations.
  • Effective problem-solving skills for troubleshooting hardware and software issues.
  • Excellent communication and coordination abilities with technical teams and leadership.

Additional desired experience and skills:

  • System engineering or administration experience with RedHat Enterprise Linux.
  • Ability to diagnose and correct RedHat Enterprise Linux errors.
  • CompTIA A+, Security+, Network+, or CEH certification.
  • Direct experience with Army Mission Command Staff operations.
  • Familiarity with Army Mission Command Systems like CPOF, CPCE, BCCS, and TSI.
  • MS Office Suite operational proficiency (Teams, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Access, OneNote).
