Staff Scientist, SEM-EDS (Hybrid - Acton, MA)

This Staff Scientist position will be integral in determining the design of disposable, class II/III medical devices and will be required to ensure our products are in compliance with ISO and USP standards. The Staff Scientist will need to actively develop/execute internal testing protocols using SEM-EDS, FTIR, GCMS and LCMS etc. This position will work closely with multiple R&D teams, Operations and QA/RA team to ensure products are adequately tested, results are documented and communicated in accordance to company procedures and 21 CFR Part 820.
The Position will report to the Senior Principal Scientist of Chemistry/biocompatibility group in the Medical Devices Hardware Engineering team at Insulet’s Headquarters in Acton, MA.
Responsibilities:
Conducts work using a safety-focused approach as well as a foundation grounded in ethics and data to inform outcomes and next steps
Conduct internal testing using SEM-EDS and FTIR or other analytical instrumentation including GCMS and LCMS.
Develop and validate test methods for internal test capabilities
Coordinate contract lab activities regarding material characterization if needed.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate research findings into product design and development
Author product, material, and process qualification test protocols and reports
Directly interface with supplier and operations engineering to ensure product remains compliant across multiple suppliers/materials/manufacturing sites
Education and Experience:
Ph.D. degree (preferred field of study: Chemistry, Material Scientist or Biology) with at least 3 years of experience in Product Research & Development or Quality in Pharmaceutical and/or Medical Device industry; or Master's degree with at least 5 years of related experience; or Bachelor's degree with at least 8 years of related experience
Extensive experience using/maintaining SEM-EDS and FTIR instruments
Extensive knowledge of various material characterization methodologies
Experience using LCMS or GCMS is a plus.

Ability to generate and maintain accurate records
Physical / Travel Requirements:
Ability to pick up / move lab equipment or tools under 20 pounds

NOTE: This position is eligible for hybrid working arrangements (requires on-site work from an Insulet office). #LI-Hybrid
Travel is estimated at 5% but will flex depending on business need

Compensation & Benefits: For U.S.-based positions only, the annual base salary range for this role is $121,725.00 - $182,587.50 This position may also be eligible for incentive compensation.
