Job Description:

Summary:

The School of International Service (SIS) is currently accepting applications for resident assistant (RA) positions for its two-week Community of Scholars (CoS) pre-college summer program. We are looking for motivated candidates to join our team. While previous resident assistant experience is preferred, all candidates with relevant experience are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities:

  • Serving as the main point of contact for a cohort of approximately ten students.

  • Keeping students informed about program events, ensuring they understand program rules, and fostering a positive experience.

  • Chaperoning afternoon group visits.

  • Overseeing free time and study periods.

  • Facilitating evening activities.

  • Addressing student concerns as they arise.

  • RAs must attend two mandatory Zoom training sessions in May or early June and arrive on campus for an all-day in-person orientation on Saturday, July 5.

  • While RAs may hold other employment during the program, they must remain flexible throughout the two weeks.

  • Rotating on-call shifts in the mornings to assist students before class.

  • Serving as emergency contacts during the night.

  • Supervising students and participating in activities during the weekend of July 12 and 13.

  • RAs may leave and duties will end on Friday, July 18, after 4 p.m.

Position Type/Expected Hours Of Work:

  • Part-Time.

  • 27 hours per week.

  • As an RA, you will live in the residence halls with CoS high school students for the duration of the program.

  • RAs will have one evening off during the twelve-day program.

  • Students move onto campus on Sunday, July 6, and the program runs from July 7 to July 18.

Compensation:

  • This position offers a stipend of $1,300.00 along with housing and meals provided for the duration of the program.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Must be a current undergraduate or graduate student during the summer of 2025.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to connect with students from diverse cultural and personal backgrounds.

  • Strong problem-solving skills.

  • Leadership and public speaking abilities.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.

  • Comfortable moving event tables/chairs and lifting to 25 pounds.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Previous experience working in an AU residence hall.
