Westinghouse Electric Company’s Nuclear Component Manufacturing facility in Newington, NH is looking for an entry-level EHS/Environmental Specialist to support the EHS Manager by ensuring compliance with federal, state and corporate environmental, health and safety regulations. The position’s primary responsibility will be to perform environmental compliance activities and supporting the environmental management system.
Your Day-to-Day:
- Promote a Safety Conscious Work Environment (SCWE) and Westinghouse’s strong Nuclear Safety Culture
- Promote and ensure the health and safety of employees through responsive and proactive safety programs, protecting employees from incidents and environmental hazards and ensuring compliance with regulations
- Maintain and improve facility environmental and safety-related procedures
- Facilitate monthly Environmental Committee meetings and associated community engagement initiatives
- Participate in various EHS committees and coordinate activities of the committee members
- Assist in the identification of workplace safety hazards through use of job hazard analyses and project design reviews to reduce safety risks
- Support Newington’s Key Business Risk management program
- Sustain and ensure compliance with Newington’s ISO 14001 Environmental Management System
- Perform a variety of site environmental regulatory inspections, permitting and reporting obligations, including but not limited to air, stormwater and waste disposal
- Maintain facility Environmental Compliance Calendar and online Safety Data Sheet (SDS) database
- Review and approve EHS Change Requests
- Assist with the planning, coordination and delivery of site EHS training, including online training modules
Who You Are:
As a successful candidate, you will bring the following to the team:
Education and Work Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental or Safety Sciences, or related discipline
- 0-3 years of experience working in Environmental Safety or EHS preferred
- New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services Hazardous Waste Coordinator Certification a plus
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication and digital literacy required
- Excellent interpersonal interactions
- Ability to build teams throughout all levels and functions of the Site with respect, tact and impactful outcomes
- Decision-making; must be capable of making well-informed decisions in both routine and emergency situations
