General Accounting (Finance) Intern

About the role

The primary function of this position is to support the various aspects of the accounting department and learn the various tasks that contribute to month end close and reporting for AR, AP, and General Accounting.

Essential Functions

  • General Accounting:
    • Process monthly journal entries
    • Reconcile monthly assigned balance sheet accounts
    • Assist in documentation of global processes/policy design and development of procedure manuals and standard operating procedures
    • Working on reporting requirements in accounting systems
  • Accounts Payable:
    • Compile together documentation of accounts payable processes
    • Learn the AP three-way matching process and document
    • Help research and close old purchase orders in Data Works
  • Accounts Receivable - General:
    • Analyze A/R aging within assigned portfolio. Reconcile past due open balances and work with customers to resolve issues.
    • Complete Daily Cash Balancing with a primary focus on daily credit card transactions: review and total current day credit cards and match them to the system totals. The next business day, reconcile credit card transactions with Accounting
  • Accounts Receivable - Genomics:
    • Cash application through to collections follow up with patient and insurance companies
    • Understanding various aspects of regulatory requirements, such as Privacy/HIPAA to PCI
    • Reporting monthly close information to accounting and FP&A
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Intermediate skill in the use of Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Advanced preferred.
  • Well organized with attention to detail and ability to carry out tasks independently.
  • Excellent project management, organizational and follow-through skill set.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Professional demeanor.

Experience

Not required, but prior Internship or metrology experience is a plus.

 

Education

  • Current university student, majoring in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Business Administration, entering their Junior or Senior year.
  • Completed course work in Accounting.
