About the role

Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group (MAPMG) invites applications for a Junior Staff Accountant to join our Finance department. This position is a full-time opportunity based out of our regional office located in Washington D.C. with a hybrid work model

Reporting to a Director of Accounting, the Junior Staff Accountant will be responsible for the monthly close process, account reconciliations, close reporting and analysis, documenting policies and procedures, management of loan program and assisting business areas as  to support the operations of the corporation.

You can expect to:

  •  Participate in the month-end close process, including general ledger entries, journal entry validation, and preparation of financial reports (e.g., trial balance, balance sheet) and other requested reports
  •  Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations and sub-ledger details, reviewing with the Accounting Supervisor, and assist in variance analysis and account trend identification
  •  Process accounts payable, review expense reports in the OneLink System, and contribute to technical accounting solutions for business issues
  •  Assist with reports for month-end meetings, support external audits, prepare schedules, and maintain cash and bank deposit entries
  •  Collaborate with the Accounting Supervisor to resolve technical matters, ensure GAAP compliance, and update desktop procedures as needed

What is required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or Business Administration preferred; an associate’s degree or two years of relevant post-secondary education required
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is preferred
  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of accounting experience is required
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and ability to read and interpret financial reports
  • Excellent interpersonal, written communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proven ability to build relationships based on trust, lead teams, and influence others through collaboration
  • Skilled in handling sensitive issues with confidentiality
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PeopleSoft (preferred)
  • Must be able to commute to Washington D.C. on an as-needed basis
  • Candidates must either currently live in or be willing to relocate to the Washington D.C. metropolitan area
  • Must provide documentation of the Covid vaccine 2-dose series (or J&J 1-dose) prior to October 1, 2023, or documentation for 1-dose of the most current Covid vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) as a condition of employment
  • Must provide documentation for the influenza vaccine as a condition of employment

The starting annual salary for this position ranges from $70,551.25 to $ 88,189.07, depending on circumstances including an applicant’s skills and qualifications, certain degrees and certifications, prior job experience, training, market data, and other relevant factors. In addition to the salary range above, MAPMG offers rich benefits that add substantial value to the total compensation package.
