About The Position
The Senior Transmission Technical Advisor is responsible for providing Operations expertise and guidance both inside and outside the department. This position is also responsible for the Transmission Operations' training programs, including the development and continuous improvement of a comprehensive, systematic training program for Operations Personnel.
Key responsibilities include:
- Represent Transmission Operations in meetings and/or projects that involve stakeholders external to the department.
- Provide support and guidance to real-time personnel on complex Operational issues, including switching arrangements, study evaluations, and system reconfigurations.
- Apply broad knowledge across Transmission Operations and coordinate cross-discipline efforts and improvements.
- Oversees complex switching requiring the development of new or improved techniques or procedures.
- Shares own expertise for the good of the organization. Contributes through others; develops, mentors, & coaches co-workers in Transmission Operations.
- Maintain roles-based training curriculums for all Operations personnel including orientation for new employees and ongoing training for established employees. Perform an annual review of curricula, Real Time Reliability Related Tasks (RTRRTs) list and Operations procedures. Update content as necessary.
- Evaluate training program on an ongoing basis to identify improvement opportunities. Identify new tools and processes which require training.
- Train System Operators and Operations Support personnel to prepare for NERC exam, including providing necessary materials and logistics.
- Train System Operators and Operations Support personnel in accordance with the role-specific training plan and new in position plan, including RTRRTs.
- Participate in industry training groups to expand knowledge base on tools and techniques for training System Operators.
- Serve as Ameren's Subject Matter Expert on NERC PER-003/005 standards and document training program reviews and updates to maintain NERC compliance.
- Capture real-time operating scenarios to create training lessons in the EMS Digital Training Simulator (DTS) for System Operators.
- Maintain System Operator NERC Certifications for existing coworkers by ensuring opportunities for Continuing Education Hours (CEH). Facilitate yearly System Restoration Simulation drills and Backup Control Center site visits.
- Act as Drill Coordinator for various external events such as annual Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) System Restoration drills and Market Emergency Capacity drills.
- When necessary, perform the duties of Ameren’s System Operator with the responsibility and authority to implement real-time actions that ensure the safe, stable and reliable operation of the Bulk Electric System.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Working conditions include flexible (hybrid) office hours, per supervisor approval.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited University preferred, electrical preferred. Seven or more years of relevant experience (e.g. system operations, transmission protection, project leadership and control engineering) required. Specific experience in transmission operations preferred. Three or more years of supervisory or high-level team/project leadership required.
In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:
